When the 5 monuments of cycling will be held in 2023
Within the UCI World Tour calendar, the five classics historically known as the Monuments deserve a special mention, constituting some of the most anticipated moments of the season. The first of these is Milan-San Remo, also known as La Primavera in mid-March; it is followed by the climax of the cobbled season with the succession of the Tour of Flanders and the Hell of the North, Paris-Roubaix, the wildest classics.
RECOMENDADO
Without leaving Belgium, Wallonia becomes the epicentre of the Ardennes classics, which culminate in the celebration of The Dean, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Finally, we move on to the month of October when, with the arrival of autumn, the Classic of the Dead Leaves, Il Lombardia, is held. This is the last big race of the season and is usually a tribute to the recently crowned World Champion. This will not be the case in the 2023 season, as the World Championship will be disputed in August.
- Milan – San Remo. March 18th, 2023
- Tour of Flanders. April 2nd, 2023
- Paris – Roubaix. April 9th, 2023
- Liège-Bastogne-Liège. April 23rd, 2023
- Il Lombardia. October 7th, 2023
The Three Grand Tours in 2023
In addition to the five monuments, the three Grand Tours are also one of the highlights of the UCI World Tour calendar. Not only for the regular cycling fan, but they also attract the attention of many others.
The month of May is the month of the fight for the maglia rosa that recognises the winner of the Giro d'Italia, which in 2023 will have a spectacular route full of mountains and long-distance stages that will surely provide us with a race not to forget.
From there we jump to the month of July when the Tour de France, one of the most important sporting events in the world, brings everything to a standstill. This season, the grande boucle presents a route that is committed to distributing the hardness throughout the three weeks and very few kilometres against the clock, a design that has not been without its critics but that, as always, will be the race that brings together the best riders in the world in their best form.
Finally, in September, La Vuelta a España will arrive. The last chance of the season to shine and which in 2023 could be affected by the change of dates of the World Championships to August, as many riders used the Spanish round as preparation for the World Championships.
- Giro d'Italia. From May 6th, 2023 to May 28th, 2023
- Tour de France. From July 1st/2023 to July 23rd/2023
- La Vuelta a España. From August 26th, 2023 to September 17th, 2023
2023 UCI World Championship
Although it is not a UCI World Tour race per se, the Cycling World Championships is another of the most eagerly awaited events of each season. This time with the novelty of the first Super-Championship that will bring together the Road, Track, Mountain Bike and BMX events on Scottish soil, in the outskirts of Glasgow.
An event that will take place between August 3rd and 13th and that poses a problem for riders like Tom Pidcock who combine mountain biking and road racing, as the two races are held just a few days apart. The same problem will be faced by some time trial specialists such as Filippo Ganna as the World Time Trial will be held just a few days after the track races.
- Road. August 6th, 2023
- Mixed team time trial. August 8th, 2023
- Individual time trial. August 11th, 2023
2023 UCI Women's World Tour Calendar
In recent seasons, women's cycling has undergone an unprecedented growth associated with the increase in the number of races and the resources that teams allocate to the women, which has led to their professionalisation and, in turn, a significant increase in the average level of the competitions.
A rise in the women's category that this past season has reached its climax with the creation of the women's Tour de France, which together with the Giro Rosa and the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta will be the highlights of the season, along with the great classics such as Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders.
