Using a road bike for urban commuting, running an errand, or simply going for a ride can be uncomfortable when it has automatic pedals.

To solve this problem, Redshift introduced the Mousetraps earlier this year, adapters that fit directly over automatic pedals and provide a flat support surface. Initially available for MTB and gravel SPD cleats, the brand has just expanded its catalog with versions for Shimano SPD-SL and LOOK Keo, two of the most common standards in road cycling.

Unlike other adapters that require adding a conventional cleat or using tools to secure them, this system features a built-in mechanical lock that allows it to be attached directly to the pedal.

The user simply needs to place the adapter over the engagement mechanism and activate its lock until it is secured. To remove it, just perform the reverse operation.

The entire process is done by hand, without the need to disassemble the pedals or modify their configuration. Additionally, the mechanism is designed to prevent the adapter from accidentally releasing when the foot is turned or pressure is applied from different angles.

Once installed, the Mousetrap offers a platform of 80 x 105 mm with a rough finish that improves the grip of conventional shoes.

Its 10 mm profile is very thin and Redshift assures that it is not necessary to modify the saddle height to use it.

Another interesting detail is that both adapters incorporate magnets that keep them together when not installed, making transportation and storage easier.

Compatible with Shimano, LOOK, and some pedals with power meters

The two new versions are designed for the main automatic road pedal systems.

The SPD-SL model is compatible with Shimano pedals that use this standard and also with certain models from other brands that employ equivalent mechanisms, including power meter pedals from Garmin and Favero. The second version is developed for LOOK Keo pedals and other models compatible with that cleat system.

A platform made of reinforced nylon with fiberglass and weighing less than 200 grams

The new Mousetraps are made using injection molding with a fiberglass-reinforced nylon compound, a material commonly used in cycling components that need to combine strength and lightness.

Redshift has maintained the same exterior dimensions in both versions, although there are slight differences in weight.
