Adidas brings its iconic Freerider to clipless pedals without giving up the Stealth sole

Adidas has presented the new generation of its Five Ten Freerider shoes, one of the most recognizable families in MTB with platform pedals. The range will arrive completely renewed in 2027 and, for the first time, the name Freerider will also be available in a specific version for automatic pedals.

The new collection will consist of four models: Freerider, Freerider Pro, Freerider Pro BOA, and Freerider Pro BOA Clip. Adidas has worked for the last two years on their development alongside cyclists like Danny MacAskill, Greg Minnaar, Vali Höll, Brendan Fairclough, and Dakotah Norton.

Despite the deep redesign, one of the essential elements remains intact. The new Freerider maintain the characteristic Stealth rubber compound, responsible for providing the high grip on the pedal pins that has historically defined Five Ten.

Among the common innovations are a toe cap with five layers of protection and PORON material, increased lateral protection, and changes in the midsole to improve comfort and absorption without losing feel on the pedals. In the Pro models, the sole pattern also changes at the toe and heel to gain traction when walking on inclined terrain.

The Freerider Pro BOA also incorporates a BOA Li2 closure protected against impacts and a PowerWrap system designed to better distribute tension around the foot.

For the first time, there are Freerider for automatic pedals

The big novelty of this generation is the Freerider Pro BOA Clip, which for the first time brings the Freerider designation to shoes for automatic pedals and takes the place of the well-known Hellcat.

It is the model most oriented towards competition and has been developed with the participation of riders from the Norco adidas Race Division. It features two BOA Li2 closures, a stiffer and more fitted construction, and Stealth Marathon rubber, more resistant to wear around the pedal and cleat.

Adidas has also extended the cleat adjustment channel by 5 mm backwards, a modification especially interesting for downhill and aggressive modalities, where it is common to move its position back for greater stability.

The change is also aesthetic. The three stripes of Adidas will have much more prominence, while Five Ten continues to be present as the identification of the off-road cycling range.

The new shoes will be available from March 2027. The Freerider will start at 120 euros, the Freerider Pro and Freerider Pro BOA will cost 180 euros, while the Freerider Pro BOA Clip will be priced at 250 euros.
