Evie Richards demonstrates her power and wins the first Nove Mesto Short Track
The strangest World Cup season we have seen in years started with rain, cold and no audience. And it did so with this week's first Women's Short Track at the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. An exciting race for many reasons in which Evie Richards has won brilliantly.
Evie Richards wins first Short Track of Nove Mesto's World Cup
The first race of the 2020 World Cup started with a temperature of 9º and raining. A Short Track that began at a high pace but not as fast as we are used to when it is dry. During the initial laps the favourites were finding a place in the lead even those who started a little later like Pauline Ferrand-Prevot or Jolanda Neff.

2020 Nove Mesto World Cup: favourites
The World Champion led the race after the first lap but the group was still very tight and numerous. The first attack was made by the German Elisabeth Brandau at the beginning of the third lap, but it gave the sensation that her intention was to have a good position when passing through the first curve and to increase the rhythm and not to try to go alone.
Brandau continued to lead a few laps by pulling the group while Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, Kate Courtney or Evie Richards were some of the most confident cyclists riding at the front.
The last lap started with Evie Richards leading and imposing a hard pace with which she tried to break the group, but Pauline did not allow it. Both of them took part in a long and intense sprint which was finally joined by Loana Lecomte and which was decided by the minimum for the British Evie Richards. It was a demonstration of power in which Richards did not slow down at any time during the whole of the last lap.
This first Short Track leaves very good sensations when verifying that Pauline Ferrand-Prevot has left behind the doubts of the beginning of the season and already races again as World Champion.
