The importance of caffeine, as well as other compounds that serve to activate certain parts of the body and squeeze it to the fullest in high energy demands, has become a factor to take into account. There are tricks on how to drink caffeine to improve your performance.


What caffeine does in your organism

Caffeine is synonymous of better physical and mental performance, because the brain, with its adenosine neurotransmitter that accumulates in neurons, reaches a state of feeling sleepy. Caffeine, basically, what it does is block these receptors, so it causes our neurons to continue working at full speed.


Who has not gotten up in the morning to go out on bicycle and has not ridden in a decent way until they have had the classic cyclist coffee. Well this is the reason for it.

The problem is that the general body tolerances and its effects are reduced or disappear completely. But caffeine does not happen like other addictive products, for which there is no reset. No, caffeine, let's put it simply, can be reset.


Of course, like any addictive food or product, it generates a slight abstinence syndrome that can complicate its disconnection. Therefore, as a cyclist we advise you to do it little by little, start for a few days and then plan it for at least a week prior to the competition. Why?


Why reset the demand of caffeine in cycling

Yes, you can guess: how to make caffeine have more effect? Well, by stopping taking it for a while so that our body lowers its tolerance and assimilation. Thus, if after a few days or weeks you consume caffeine again, the fact that the body is not used to its intake will make it absorb much better and its effects are more intense.


This little trick, we could say, is what is called a "caffeine cure" or a "caffeine reset" in a multitude of sports, including cycling. Quite simply, what many cyclists do is that the week before a competition or a race, they completely dispense with any caffeine intake, it does not matter if it is coffee or derivatives, especially some food supplements that contain high doses of caffeine precisely for activate the organism.


Once that week passes and the race begins, in the middle or at the end of that race, they take gel with caffeine in a large dose, and multiply its enhancing effect in this phase. It is a smart weapon, it does not involve dopping, of course, and it can make a minimal but important difference, especially in the rider's sensations facing the key moment.
