The Colombian Leo Paez has won the last two MTB Marathon World Championships and was the clear favourite to retain the title for the third time, here you can take a look at the rest of the favourites, the route, etc. But bad luck has taken its toll on him and during a training session on the course of the Elba Island he suffered a silly fall that has greatly reduced his chances of victory.

A bad crash this morning on the course of the Capoliveri World Championship has put at risk the participation of the current world champion Leo Paez, representative of the Colombian national team and of the official Giant Polimedical team. The worst omen was confirmed by the X-ray taken immediately on the island "intra-articular fracture of the distal epiphysis of the radius" complicated by the breakage of a screw implanted some time ago after another traumatism.
"I am bitterly disappointed because the work I did in preparation for this race and the tests I did told me that I am in great shape, only a few days separate me from this event, but together with Polimedical we will do everything possible to be in a position to be on the starting grid and give 110%". Leo Paes himself explained
"It seems that we are living a bad dream, but as always we will wake up and we will be stronger than before, Leo is a lion and we are sure that he will get over this bump.... In fact, bad luck is his biggest opponent at the moment. The team and the Colombian national team will give Leo all the support and backing he needs at this moment". His team commented
