2000€ fine for Nino Schurter and Kate Courtney for the equipment worn during the Mairipora World Cup
Nino Schurter, Kate Courtney, Savilia Blunk and Jolanda Neff violated the UCI clothing regulations during the race or podium celebration at the Mairipora World Cup, and the organization did not overlook it. Fines range from 2000 Swiss francs that Schurter and Courtney will have to pay to 500 for Blunk and Neff.
UCI does not overlook clothing violations
If on the road the controls on cyclists' socks are well known, in XCO the UCI also does not fall behind. In the recently held Mairipora World Cup, the commissioners did not overlook any detail of the outfits worn by the cyclists during the races and podium, as reflected in the rain of financial fines imposed after the event.
The highest fines were received by SCOTT SRAM for the jerseys worn by Kate Courtney and Nino Schurter during the Mairipora Short Track. Both wore the team's official kit with the rainbow at the end of the sleeves. A distinctive feature that the UCI allows all cyclists who have ever been World Champions in the discipline to wear. And that was exactly the reason. Courtney was the XCO world champion in 2018 and Schurter has been 10 times, but neither has ever been Short Track world champion, so they cannot wear the rainbow in this discipline. The result has been a fine of 2,000 euros for each.
In the case of American Savilia Blank and Swiss Jolanda Neff, both fined around 500 euros, their clothing violation occurred on the podium. Savilia went up to collect the trophy for her second place with a bag from one of her sponsors and Jolanda, fifth in the race, did so with a hat from another sponsor. It seems that these accessories were what violated the UCI regulations for them.
