David Valero has 40 weeks as number 1 in the UCI ranking and the best is yet to come
As every week, the UCI has just updated its ranking for Cross-country and once again, in the highest, appears the name of David Valero Serrano. The BH Coloma Team rider is still number 1, for 40 weeks now, and the most important thing is that he has managed to keep it in two different seasons.
CHECK THE COMPLETE RANKING
David Valero remains at the top of the UCI ranking
At the end of September 2022, David Valero reached the top of the UCI ranking for the first time in his career, the second Spanish rider to achieve it after Jose Antonio Hermida. He did it after a great season in which he had achieved a series of very good results, such as his victory in the Snowshoe World Cup or the silver medal in the World Cup last season.

Valero seemed to be at the peak of his form, but has shown that at 34 years of age he has been able to maintain it between seasons and still has room for improvement.
In 2023 he started participating in the Cape Epic with his teammate Pablo Rodriguez, but digestive problems left him out of the race. After some successful pre-season races he made his debut with bad sensations in the Nove Mesto World Cup where he finished 27th. Then came the Lenherheide race and there he achieved, together with a new BH Lynx, his best position in a Short Track (8th) and finished on the podium of the XCO race (5th). A week later he finished 13th in the Leogang World Cup and 7 days later he came 5th in the European Championships 2023.
All these results have allowed him to maintain the number 1 of the UCI ranking, but the most important thing is that David Valero is showing consistency, a great capacity for recovery and improvements in explosive efforts, more typical of younger cyclists, such as the Short Track. Qualities that make us hope that the best of the Spaniard is yet to come in the second half of 2023.
Valero's next appointment will be this week at the Val di Sole World Cup and will be the fourth consecutive week of competition for the current number 1.
