What bicycles and equipment will the World Tour teams use in 2024

The new year is approaching and teams are starting to anticipate their new colors and we are seeing the equipment and bicycles that they will use in the imminent season at the different concentrations. Few changes among the World Tour squads but with some very relevant ones. Let's review them.

World Tour teams fine-tune the bikes and equipment they will use in 2024

December is a period of incessant activity within the World Tour teams. As a general rule, during these days the first serious preseason concentration is faced after a first contact during the month of November in which, apart from putting a face to the new additions, it serves to take sizes and measures for the clothes.

It is in December where the real work begins with the teams moving their bases mainly to the Marina Alta region of Alicante although some still maintain their winter quarters in Mallorca or Girona. Time for the first training and tests but also to test and adjust the new bikes, clothes, shoes in addition to facing the brands a training task for cyclists to explain the details of the material they are going to use so that each rider becomes an ambassador of the firm.

Obviously, these concentrations are under the focus of the media so that, no matter how much they try to hide certain novelties, everything ends up being known in this era of mobile phones and social networks. That is why they no longer resist and the brands are presenting these novelties without waiting for the new year, especially in what refers to the new bikes and equipment that they will wear throughout the new year.

Focused already on the campaign that is coming, it cannot be said that there have been many novelties in the World Tour peloton although, the few that there have been, have been resounding. Obviously, we must start by talking about the return of Decathlon to competition with a very serious bet to become a brand to consider. It will accompany the AG2R which is renamed Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, providing a spectacular aerolight bike, its Van Rysel RCR in addition to having developed for the team the XCR, its first time trial bike.

The French team will equip Shimano, which means that no World Tour team will carry Campagnolo in 2024. On the wheels, the presence of Swiss Side stands out, who have collaborated with Van Rysel in optimizing the aerodynamics of their two bikes.

The other big change, much more surprising because of the years that brand and team had been together, also affects a French squad. We are talking about the Groupama-FDJ who, after years linked to Lapierre, change their bike to trust the Italians from Wilier, a brand that takes a leap by being, along with Canyon and Specialized, the only ones that sponsor more than one squad since Astana will also continue linked to the Italians. Groupama-FDJ will continue in any case mounting Shimano, both in groupsets and wheels.

Speaking of groupsets, it is striking that the arrival of Primoz Roglic to Bora-Hansgrohe has meant that he has come accompanied by SRAM, with already 4 teams mounting the groups of the American firm: Bora-Hangrohe, Lidl-Trek, Movistar Team and Visma-Lease a Bike.

We have also been able to see some of the new kits with the colors that the teams will wear in 2024 over the past few weeks. Without going any further Bora-Hansgrohe, who trusts Sportful again, after wearing Le Col since 2022, and in which yellow makes its appearance in the design taking prominence over black.

We learned a few days ago that the Murcian firm Gobik will supply the clothes of none other than a whole INEOS Grenadiers, although without major changes in the design of their clothes. By the way, clothes that will no longer be almost identical to those of Bahrain-Victorious this year being white with some details in green.

Curious is the case of AG2R that, despite Decathlon's strong commitment to sponsorship, will not wear Van Rysel garments but maintains its sponsorship contract with Rosti while Cofidis, another of the French teams, does continue to use Van Rysel clothes.

Special mention deserves the presentation made by Soudal-QuickStep of their new clothes, with few modifications compared to that of 2023 but with a Julian Alaphilipe in star mode to the rhythm of Celine Dion that was the talk of the networks a few days ago. The video is a must-see.
