A 32" Trek with a RockShox SID fork? Soldier Hollow could clear up the doubts

Trek has started to heat up the atmosphere ahead of the Soldier Hollow World Cup with a rather suggestive message. The Trek Unbroken is announcing that this weekend it will showcase “something big,” and although the brand has not provided further details, the clues point to the XCO with 32-inch wheels that we saw leaked a few months ago.

Trek could take advantage of the Soldier Hollow World Cup to debut its 32" XCO

The MTB World Cup enters this weekend into its final block of the season with the first of two North American events in Soldier Hollow, Utah. And Trek seems to have chosen precisely this race, in its home country, to showcase one of its most important innovations.

The Trek Unbroken team has published a brief teaser on its social media. There is no official confirmation about what is hidden behind it, but both the context and the images shown make it inevitable to think about the 32 inches.

In the video, Evie Richards appears alongside a bike that can barely be clearly distinguished. Even so, its proportions catch attention. The wheels seem especially large, while the position of the handlebars and stem is very low in relation to them.

Richards' choice does not go unnoticed either. The British rider is about 1.63 m tall, so using her in this teaser allows to visually emphasize the size of the wheels even more.

Everything also fits with what we saw a few weeks ago on Brújula Bike. During the video in which Trek celebrated its 50th anniversary, an XC bike with very different proportions from the usual appeared for a few moments, and the wheels apparently were 32 inches. 

That bike also maintained a good part of the architecture of the 29" prototype with which the Trek Unbroken is competing this year, a dual suspension platform with a flex stay system, 115 mm of rear travel, and a design conceptually situated between the Supercaliber and the Top Fuel. Trek explained at the time that that competition prototype would not reach the market, but also made it clear that it served as a testbed for developing its future bikes. 

The possible debut of a 32" RockShox SID would be another major novelty

If Trek finally appears in Soldier Hollow with this bike, the novelty could go much further than the frame itself.

The Trek Unbroken uses RockShox suspensions, and so far the SRAM-owned brand has not publicly presented a specific fork for 32-inch wheels. Therefore, a fully functional bike with this diameter would also need a compatible solution in its front end.

So there is a possibility that alongside the bike, a new RockShox SID prepared for 32" will appear. It would be a particularly relevant move because it would mean that one of the major suspension manufacturers is fully entering this new standard.

Something similar happens with the wheels. A competition bike of these characteristics would need specific rims, spokes, and tires, so its appearance in a World Cup would allow to check how far Trek and its suppliers have advanced in the development of the entire ecosystem necessary around the 32 inches.

What does seem to be appreciated in the teaser is that we are looking at a dual suspension, something logical for the XCO World Cup.
