What is the most expensive and cheapest bike in the Tour de France?
Cycling is one of the few sports where a fan can have exactly the same equipment as their idols. Bikes that obviously occupy the top of the range of their respective brands although in a wider price range than one could imagine.
This is how much the bikes that professionals will use in the Tour de France cost
The moderation that bike prices have suffered in the last year and the appearance of models such as the Van Rysel from Decathlon or the arrival of the Chinese brand X-Lab as the supplier of the XDS-Astana have caused the average price of the bikes in the peloton to drop. However, the cost of top-of-the-range groups, skyrocketed in the latest generations of SRAM Red AXS, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 and the new Campagnolo Super Record 13 used by Cofidis as well as the top-of-the-range components that these bikes mount, make the average price of a bike in the peloton still well above €10,000. All this, excluding time trial models that further increase prices.
At the top of the list we find, it couldn't be otherwise, the bike of the number 1. The Colnago Y1Rs that the brand from Cambiago introduced at the beginning of the season and that Tadej Pogacar will use in the flat stages is clearly the most expensive in the peloton. A setup as close as possible to what the Slovenian uses, also with the colors of the world champion, goes beyond €16,400.

An expressionist work of art, that's the design that the Lidl-Trek will sport in the Tour and will be available to the public
Specialized has just released an identical edition, with the same decoration and components, to the one that Primoz Roglic and the rest of the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe team will use, which has a price of €15,499. The same has been done by Trek with their spectacular Madone SLR9 Project One with the new Icon Couler design that the Lidl-Trek cyclists will wear in the Tour although this one is a bit more affordable at €14,399.
The other end of the list is more disputed. If a few years ago Canyon was always considered the best value for money bike, today their Aeroad CFR Di2, the most similar model in their catalog to the one used by Movistar Team and Alpecin-Deceuninck, exceeds €10,000. Much further down we find the new Van Rysel RCR-F PRO which we can have an exact replica of the one used by Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale for €7,999.99.
A price that even beats that of the X-Lab AD9 from XDS-Astana of which only its frame kit is sold for €3,170 but, if we take into account the components and wheels that the Chinese-Kazakh team mounts, we are talking about a bike around €10,000.
However, we find in the peloton another bike even cheaper than the French one. We are talking about the machine used by the Intermarché-Wanty cyclists, the Cube Litening C:68X Aero whose price, with a setup as similar as possible to that used by the team, would be around €7,299, just slightly lower than the Van Rysel.
In any case, all these bikes are designed with the sole purpose of going as fast as possible and prioritize maximum stiffness of their frame over comfort, as well as aggressive geometries that not only allow the cyclist to adopt the most aerodynamic and efficient position but also prioritize handling agility over stability, making them bikes that are challenging for many amateur cyclists who do not have the physique or technique of professionals, with the brands offering more economical models in their ranges that will provide good performance but with greater comfort and adaptability.
