Mathieu Van der Poel tests the upcoming Shimano mountain shoes
A few days ago, the circuit that will host the race at the Paris Olympic Games had the traditional XCO test race that allows to test the circuit and let the cyclists know what they will find next summer at the Olympic event.
Among the participants was a Mathieu van der Poel who took a short break from his vacation to attend the event since, one of his priorities next season will be to win the gold medal in this race. A race in which he could also be seen testing new material, specifically, new Shimano S-Phyre shoes that could be the next XC903 if we look at the names used by the Japanese brand.

Shoes that, on the other hand, are built based on the current RC903 road shoes that Mathieu van der Poel has been using over the years. In fact, these shoes had their share of prominence at the Glasgow World Championship when the Dutchman suffered a fall when he was riding alone on his way to victory and broke one of the boa closures of them.
Returning to the new mountain bike model, these new shoes should be the successors of the current XC902, present in the Shimano catalog since 2021. Shoes that are expected to have reduced a few grams of their weight as happened with the road model with which they share the Boa closures and design.
In any case, seeing how Van der Poel has used them without the slightest embarrassment at an event where he knew he was going to be on camera, it is expected that Shimano has used this event to start creating expectation about these new shoes which indicates that the launch of them could be imminent.
