Aggressive and aerodynamic, but UCI compliant, that's the TOOT Ashaa RR handlebar
The component brand of the Italian bicycle brand TºRED presents a hyperaerodynamic handlebar. Initially created for the track, it pushes the limits of the UCI's measurements for road handlebars, placing the cyclist in a practically time trial position.
The TOOT Ashaa RR handlebar pushes the UCI regulations to the limit
Despite the new UCI regulations that have sought to prevent cyclists from turning the levers inward or using excessively narrow handlebars, manufacturers continue to come up with ways to create ultra-aerodynamic models.
A good example is the TOOT Ashaa RR handlebar, a component brand belonging to the Italian manufacturer of handmade bikes TºRED. A handlebar that the brand developed to be used on the track, where narrow handlebars to the limit are the norm and that the brand has adapted to be used on the road complying with the dimensions set by the UCI in its technical regulations.

This TOOT Ashaa RR is manufactured through 3D printing of stainless steel or titanium. The first thing that catches the eye is how tremendously narrow it is. To achieve this, it takes advantage of the fact that the minimum width of 35 cm set by the UCI is measured at the bottom. Based on that, the handlebar plays with curves and angles of inclination, achieving at the top a width of just 14 cm since, although at the top it is limited by the UCI's schematics, the precise angulation and flare of the handlebar make the levers positioned inward as if they had been turned on a conventional handlebar. An effect that is accentuated by the notable reach and drop it presents.
Furthermore, the 3D printing allows for maximum customization of the handlebar, being able to adjust the grip and support areas to perfectly accommodate the cyclist's hand. Of course, such a level of manufacturing comes with a hefty price tag.
Specifically, this TOOT Ashaa RR is sold for the prohibitive amount of 1,390 €, 1,990 € if we choose the version made of titanium which saves a few grams. Ashaa also offers this handlebar in carbon fiber which, curiously, is more affordable, staying at a more accessible 429 €. All this for an aerodynamic gain that the brand estimates at 3%.
