Specialized launches the exclusive S-Works Tarmac SL9 Remco LTD: just 100 available for €14,999

Specialized has just taken its new Tarmac SL9 to a much more exclusive terrain. The brand is selling the S-Works Tarmac SL9 Remco LTD, a replica of the bike created for Remco Evenepoel, of which only 100 numbered units will be produced worldwide. The price will be 14,999 euros.

Remco's SL9 goes from the peloton to the catalog

This is not just about dressing the SL9 in the Belgian's colors. Specialized has reserved some specific team components for this edition, including the new Roval Rapide CLX Sprint wheels and a Team Edition version of the SRAM RED AXS. The result is probably the most special interpretation of the SL9 that can be purchased this season.

Presented before the Tour de France, the Specialized Tarmac SL9 represented a significant evolution over the SL8, although perhaps not so much in pursuit of a specific figure as in the way Specialized rethought its development.

The brand articulated the project around the concept Time To Finish, where aerodynamics, weight, and behavior are no longer optimized in isolation but become part of the same equation with the sole aim of reducing the time needed to complete a real course.

From there emerged a S-Works FACT 12r frame weighing 687 grams, accompanied by a thorough aerodynamic revision, with solutions such as the new Offset Steerer direction, a narrower head tube, a lowered down tube, the Flow Fork, or the rear Win Fin. That is exactly the platform on which the Remco LTD is now built.

A replica that goes beyond decoration

Visually, the bike starts from the concept “Motion + Emotion” debuted by Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe this season, but Specialized has prepared its own interpretation for Evenepoel.

The gold, in homage to Evenepoel's Olympic gold, dominates the front area and extends from the fork to the top tube before merging with the white of the rear half. There appears the recognizable sticker slap finish of the team. A decoration quite far from the usual sobriety of many S-Works editions and, above all, immediately associated with the Belgian's bike.

Each frame will also be individually numbered and production will end at unit number 100. But it is in the assembly where this edition becomes more interesting.

Specialized mounts for this model a customized SRAM RED AXS Team Edition, with a Quarq power meter and a 50/37 front and 10-36 rear cassette. Also featured are CeramicSpeed bottom bracket, integrated Roval Rapide cockpit, S-Works Rapide seatpost, and S-Works Power saddle with Mirror.

The wheels are the team-specific Roval Rapide CLX Sprint, with an unconventional combination of profiles: 63 mm in front and 58 mm in the rear, both with 21 mm internal width and aerodynamic Roval by ARRIS composite spokes with titanium terminals.

With this assembly, Specialized claims 6.78 kg in size 56.

The Tarmac SL9 opens from below and becomes even more exclusive from above

The arrival of this Remco LTD is particularly striking due to the timing. Specialized has just made the exact opposite move in the rest of the range.

Just a few days ago, we learned about the new Tarmac SL9 S-Level, Expert, and Comp, with which the brand has extended the SL9 platform to much more accessible prices. The new FACT 10r frame allows the family to start now at 4,499 euros, while the S-Level versions occupy the space immediately below S-Works.

The Remco LTD is deliberately positioned at the other end.

For 14,999 euros, it is 1,000 euros more than the conventional S-Works Tarmac SL9 SRAM RED AXS. But here the added value lies in the exclusive decoration, its assembly, and the numbered production.

The bike is available in sizes 52, 54, 56, and 58 and will be sold exclusively through Specialized.com with delivery managed later by its network of distributors.
