SCOTT Spark 2023: new set-ups, colours and prices

When it comes to XC, the SCOTT Spark RC is the bike of choice for many. Not surprisingly, it is backed by outstanding results in the discipline thanks to the talented Swiss rider Nino Schurter. Now, the Swiss brand is introducing the SCOTT Spark RC 2023 range, which keeps the geometry and frame of the 2022 model, but has changed some set-ups.

Spark RC 2023: a XC to win

It is difficult to briefly summarise the Spark RC's extensive track record in just a few words. To cite a recent success, last August Schurter took his tenth MTB World Championship victory in Les Gets riding the Spark.

As mentioned above, the Spark RC 2023 does not change the geometry or frame of the 2022 model. As a reminder, it is worth noting what were -and will continue to be- its main features.

Highlights include 120 mm of travel both front and rear, 29" wheels, HMX or HMF carbon frame -depending on the set-up- lower and integrated shock, internal cable routing and a geometry that reaffirms some XC trends: 67.2°/65.8° steering angles (modifiable) and saddle angles of more than 75°.

What changes in Spark RC 2023

After reviewing what SCOTT has kept from the Spark RC 2022, now it's time to focus on the changes. Changes that are mainly visible in some of the components.

Compared to the top-of-the-range Spark RC SL, the most significant change is in the drivetrain. It now has a SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS instead of the SRAM XX Eagle AXS SL used in the 2022 version, although it still comes with a power meter.

The drivetrain is also the most notable change on the World Cup Evo, which will be the same as the bigger version. The World Cup, meanwhile, will now have different brakes, switching from Shimano XTR brakes to SRAM Level brakes.

The Team Issue gets a further upgrade and changes three components: the fork is now FOX 34 SC Float Perf. 120 mm, the shock FOX Nude 5 EVOL and the seatpost a FOX Transfer.

The other Spark RC set-ups -Pro, Team and Comp- do not change their main components.

New year, new colours

SCOTT has opted for a new colour scheme. The all-black SL from 2022 gives way to a bike that is still predominantly black, but the part of the frame closest to the stem is faded to a reddish tone.

Continuing with the predominant black that fades to another colour, the World Cup Evo changes the red of the SL for an exotic colour that looks like a mix of brown, green and grey tones. This part of the frame near the stem is painted green on the World Cup (almost exactly the same colour as the Team Issue 2022).

The Pro abandons this two-tone style and comes in one colour, grey. The 2023 Team Issue is almost identical in colour to the World Cup Evo.

The Team has two possible colours: black and white. On the other hand, the Comp also comes in two colours, although in this case they are blue and the black-green combination of the World Cup.

Finally, another change that can be seen is the higher price, although this increase could already be anticipated in view of the way the environment and the market itself are behaving.
