The new SCOTT CALA BANDIDA team led by Sergio Mantecón is born
A new mountain bike team has just been launched, the SCOTT CALA BANDIDA team, which is the brand's new commitment to the national XCM but with the capacity to fight for any international podium. A completely new structure featuring Sergio Mantecón, Francesc Guerra, José María Sánchez and Marcos García.
The SCOTT CALA BANDIDA team is born to be an international XCM reference
After the dissolution of the Buff SCOTT team, SCOTT Spain has found in the Cala Bandida catering group the perfect partner to create a new team with world-class national members capable of fighting for any international podium.
Didac Sabaté, Marketing Manager of SCOTT Spain, announced the new team: "it is a great project with which we want to create an international team based on national riders. We want to promote our country's youth and show that we have the quality to be at the front of any competition. It is a team, but we also want to be a reference for the riders and fans of our country".

For its part, the Cala Bandida Group states that "the creation of the new SCOTT Cala Bandida team is another step in the evolution and growth of the Cala Bandida Group. In addition to the expansion of our restaurant brands - currently Cala Bandida and La Bandideta in Xàbia, with new openings of the Villa Bandida restaurants coming soon -, we are also developing a traditional food workshop in Gata that integrates restaurant and catering services, and the group's strong commitment to the delivery service Comentucasa.com, which in a few weeks will be operating throughout Spain serving healthy dishes and menus at home. Cala Bandida continues to grow and has decided to incorporate an important sponsorship agreement with the SCOTT cycling team, a leader in the sports field, with which it shares many values: the care of a healthy Mediterranean diet, the constant training of the team and the culture of effort are just some of them. The projection of the new SCOTT Cala Bandida team will provide greater visibility for our project and open up new business opportunities. In addition, David Ferrer joins this project as brand ambassador to underline the values of self-improvement and love for the sport from an amateur perspective, leaving aside the high competition to enjoy 100% one of his great passions, cycling".
In addition, with the presentation of the SCOTT CALA BANDIDA we have also learned that the Spanish Sergio Mantecón is turning the page in his sporting career and this year we will no longer see him in the XCO World Cup. He will focus fully on the bike-marathon, a discipline where he already knows what it is like to be among the top 10 riders in a World Championship: "After 21 seasons in the Olympic distance, I need to find myself again as an athlete and look for new ambitions. The long distance is something I've always enjoyed, I've always been good at it, and I haven't been able to prepare for it thoroughly, so it seems like the perfect time to start this transition. Along with the sporting project, a personal project has arisen, the creation of the structure of a professional team, to which I will bring my years of experience in different international and national teams, and my way of seeing competitive mountain biking, while trying to help my teammates to improve their sporting careers".
In the case of Francesc Guerra and José María Sánchez, they know exactly what SCOTT is all about and now they will be able to bring all their experience in competition to this new project. In addition, the current Spanish champion of the sport, Marcos García, completes the strong SCOTT Cala Bandida squad. Focused on the road until now, his national champion title, which he already won on a SCOTT Spark RC, has opened the doors for him to grow in XCM.
This will be the SCOTT Cala Bandida calendar for 2022:
- Costa Blanca Bike Race – From 27 to 30 January
- Mediterranean Epic – From 10 to 13 February
- Andalucía Bike Race – From 21 to 26 February
- Cape Epic – From 20 to 27 March
The team will compete with the new SCOTT Spark RC World Cup Evo AXS full suspension and SCOTT Scale World Cup AXS, both with Syncros Fraser iC SL WC handlebars and Belcarra R SL and Tofino V SL saddles.
