The best Pidcock of the season wins the Hulst CX World Cup, mechanics eliminate Van Aert
The CX World Cup came to Hulst with the absence of Van der Poel as one of the big news, but all the attention was focused on another possible duel between Pidcock and Van Aert. The race did not disappoint. After a mechanical failure suffered by Van Aert, Pidcock rode his best race of the season to take his second World Cup win.
Thomas Pidcock wins the Hulst CX World Cup
All eyes were on Thomas Pidcock and Wout van Aert from the start, and although the Belgian rider started from the back, he was able to take fourth place after the first two curves. But on the first climb Van Aert suffered a chain failure that forced him to stop. He was able to fix the problem himself, but the stoppage sent him straight back to 40th position before the end of the first lap. The race was set.

After the incident, Dutchman Van der Haar was leading the race with Iserbyt on his wheel, and both were making sure that the race was as tight as possible so as not to make it easy for Van Aert to make a comeback. Pidcock was holding fifth at a comfortable pace without losing the lead group.
Britain's Pidcock made his move on the fourth lap and it was then that he took the lead of the race and began to pull away to stay alone with Iserbyt trying to follow him. Behind Van Aert was still gaining positions and was already 17th, but he still had a lot of riders ahead of him and couldn't cut time with the race leader, when Pidcock started to accelerate, the gap to Van Aert went from 44 to 50 seconds.
As the laps continued to pass, Pidcock maintained a furious pace at the front. Only Eli Iserbyt, who was to be proclaimed overall winner with two races to go, tried not to let him go and was 6 seconds behind the British rider. Behind, Wout van Aert was fourth on the last lap, but his gap to Pidcock was over one minute.
British rider Thomas Pidcock was undoubtedly the best rider of the day and showed his best performance this season, which was enough for him to finish first and win the Hulst 2022 CX World Cup. Eli Iserbyt finished second and with this result he wins the overall classification of the World Cup. The podium was completed by Lars Van der Haar from the Netherlands.
