Pidcock saves crash with cyclocross style riding a time trial bike

British rider Tom Pidcock has made his debut in style at the Volta ao Algarve 2023. Just three weeks after finishing his cyclocross season he started his road season with a stage win, but on the last day, when he was wearing the leader's jersey, a mistake cost him the overall and almost ended in a crash.

The Volta ao Algarve began with Pidcock taking the sprint for the first day's victory and followed that up with a very gradual win on the penultimate stage that left him in the leader's jersey for the final day. But on the final stage a tricky time trial awaited the British rider, which could have ended much worse if it wasn't for his great technique on the bike.

The stage victory finally went to Stefan Küng and the overall was won by Pidcock's teammate, Colombian Daniel Felipe Martínez.
