Training in Marseille on his new S-Works Epic 8 his heart rate became abnormal again.
Sagan's heart rate spikes again and he will undergo heart surgery again this week
This weekend Peter Sagan was in Marseille to compete in a French Cup race that was ultimately won by his teammate Victor Koretzky. But the three-time Road Champion couldn't even start the race. During training, his heart started acting abnormally again and he explained it himself on his social networks:
"While training on the rocky track in Marseille, my heart started racing again. Nothing to worry about, you could say my heart needs a pit stop. I will undergo surgery next week and thanks to my friend, sports cardiologist Dr. Roberto Corsetti, I am sure I will be back on the bike very soon"
Sagan's optimism and how quickly he decided to return to competition after his first operation suggest that this setback will not stop him on his way to the Paris Olympics, in the mountain bike event. But the Slovak has it increasingly difficult as his country is currently in 38th position in the UCI country ranking and should be among the top 19 before May 26 to secure a spot. To achieve this, his strategy was to earn the maximum points for his country during this time.
