What's new on the Orbea Rise 2023
The Rise model arrived in Orbea's catalogue in 2020 under the RS, Rider Sinergy philosophy. A model with which the Mallabia-based brand brought two worlds closer together, that of electric mountain bikes and that of conventional bikes. The idea was to leave aside large batteries and heavy mounts to achieve the most natural ride possible. It succeeded then, and now it continues to improve and advance along these lines.
Shimano EP801 motor with unique RS configuration
The first big change is at the heart of the new Orbea Rise 2023 with the latest Shimano EP801 motor in RS version. This new Shimano motor offers more adjustability and connectivity than ever before, while maintaining the RS configuration that Orbea designed for this platform to offer natural power delivery.

The unit is the same as the standard Shimano EP801 but Orbea engineers have reprogrammed the electronics to offer maximum torque at 60 Nm and modified the power curves to achieve more natural assistance and maximise range.
RS customisation means a significant reduction in battery consumption, while offering less intrusive assistance and the ability to deliver more power when the rider is pedalling more energetically.
More range
In the battery section, the Rise introduces several important changes that expand the capabilities of this eMTB. Remember that Orbea is in charge of designing its own batteries and for this new version it has redesigned and optimised the option. This has made it possible to reduce 300 grams from its previous model.
The new 360 Wh battery is made with 21700 cells, which have a better charge/discharge ratio and better heat management. It is also more compact than the previous version and the attachment points to the frame are integrated into the battery itself. This improves the weight distribution on the frame.
Another important new feature is that carbon models will now also have the option of choosing a 540 Wh battery during the purchase process. Until now, this was only available for the aluminium versions.
To these batteries, the new Rise can add a 252Wh Range Extender, giving the possibility of 792Wh, in any model.
The 2023 line-up, in both carbon and aluminium, will share the entire electric ecosystem, using the same range extender and smart charger. With this charger, the manufacturer promises an 80% charge in just 2 hours.
New linkage
The Orbea Rise 2023 features a completely redesigned linkage that offers great advantages such as increased stiffness, reduced weight and compatibility with Orbea's FLP multi-tool.
The new linkage is a major improvement for this Orbea Rise 2023, as it makes the frame lighter, down to 2.2kg in size M, and improves the stiffness of the front triangle.
Inside, the Rise has also optimised the internal cabling and connections to continue beating the scale.
Integration levels up
Several changes have allowed the Rise 2023 to take a leap forward in terms of bike integration. Firstly, the new EN600 wireless remote to control the motor directly saves cables from the handlebars, but the Rise also incorporates Orbea's SIC System, which we've already seen on models such as the new Oiz and Wild.
With this system the cables are "lost" from the steering cover, which allows them to be shorter and avoid any noise thanks to the internal routing. The Spin Block handlebar limiter to avoid unnecessary bumps on the frame is another detail to take into account in the new Rise.
Aluminium, carbon and customised
The Orbea Rise was first introduced with a carbon-only range and then new aluminium options appeared. The new Rise 2023 comes straight away with 7 models in total, 4 in carbon and 3 in aluminium.
All are compatible with both battery options, and the aluminium range will be fitted with the Shimano EP6 RS motor, the same as the EP801 but with an aluminium housing instead of magnesium.
As usual at Orbea, the new Rise can be configured in many different ways. You can choose from the battery options already mentioned, you can add the Range Extender and choose from various suspension models, wheels or ergonomic measures in the cockpit or dropper post. In the carbon models it will also be possible to customise the colour and finish of the frame.
