New Oiz 2023, the fastest XC created by Orbea
The Orbea Oiz 2023 arrives completely renewed and the brand assures that we are facing the fastest XC they have created in its more than 180 years of history. To achieve this they have developed a new pure XC platform with 120 mm of travel and an optimized geometry that leaves the set in less than 10 kg ready to race.
Orbea Oiz 2023 key features
The Orbea Oiz 2023 is presented as a modern competition XC with 120 mm of travel as the only option. A risky bet that has allowed Orbea to achieve a faster downhill MTB without compromising the weight and efficiency that is expected from a model ready to race in the XCO World Cup.

Before analyzing all the new features of the Orbea Oiz 2023, let's try to summarize this new model with a few key points:
- Developed for XC, Marathon or light Trail
- 120 mm travel as only rear option
- 29" wheels
- Frame weight: 1750g
- Weight of the set in its lightest, ready-to-ride version: 9,98 Kg
- Price: 3,999 - 9,999 € for carbon versions
- Carbon and aluminum versions
The Oiz 2023 features a frame full of novelties
New Fiberlink linkage and kinematics
This is a completely new frame, designed from the scratch and conceived to use 120 mm suspensions. It retains the shock absorber in a horizontal position under the top tube, driven by a new Fiberlink linkage that is more integrated into the shape of the frame and allows a kinematics capable of offering the rider sensations similar to those obtained with 100 mm suspensions but gaining 20 mm of extra travel.
This kinematics retains similar anti-squat values and an almost unchanged suspension curve compared to the previous Oiz.
Maximum lightweight
It maintains the single-pivot system that takes advantage of the flex in the seat stays (UFO) as part of the rear damping. Orbea relies on this solution for the operation of its rear suspension, a way to keep weight down. This, together with a precisely calculated placement of the fibers, results in a figure of 1750 g for the frame made of OMX carbon.
The lines of the frame are now sharper, reducing the thickness of the top tube and with a diagonal tube that loses its rounded shape giving way to straighter lines.
The Orbea Oiz 2023 in its lightest standard version weighs 9.98 kg ready to ride, pedals included.
Maximum reliability and 2 water bottles in all sizes
In the new Oiz the steering area has changed. It now houses the Spin Block system, a lock that limits steering rotation. Signed by Across, it prevents any handlebar component from hitting the top tube due to excessive twisting.
The down tube loses the slight central curvature it had to give way to a completely straight and more vertical tube than the previous one. Designed to accommodate 31.6 mm seatposts. Like the previous model, it allows the installation of 2 water bottle cages, but now this feature can be found in all frame sizes.
It has been chosen to fit a bottom bracket with BSA thread to rule out possible noises and facilitate maintenance.
One of the most important changes is found in the swingarm. The section of the stays now has wider areas at the top and bottom of the tubes, increasing the area and thus improving lateral stiffness by 12%, according to the brand.
The double ball bearings fitted to the new Oiz are more load-bearing and offer greater durability. In addition, the new axle design houses larger bearings on the right side, the area that receives the highest loads. In keeping with the commitment to reliability, rubbers have been installed at the joints between the swingarm and the main frame to provide extra protection for the sealed bearings and foam at the rear. All this to prevent dirt from entering the joints and to guarantee a good performance for a longer period of time.
Increased Integration
The latest version of the Oiz continues to use the I-Line cable integration technology. This Orbea patented solution hides completely the shock cable. The rest of the cable routing has been completely modified.
Under the term SIC System we find a new integration of the cables in which now their length is shorter and they enter through the upper part of the steering cover, through small silicone inserts that prevent the entry of water or dust. These inserts can be interchanged depending on the number of cables available. They are covered with foam throughout the interior to avoid annoying noises. The passage from the main triangle to the swingarm is made through the rear of the bottom bracket, being completely hidden, guided by a thin rubber tube along the entire chainstay and coming into view once it reaches the height of the derailleur or brake caliper. This integration is completed with the new handlebar and stem, to which the dropper seatpost cable routing is added for a completely clean look.
It has a UDH shifter hanger. On the other hand, the brake caliper anchorage varies depending on the carbon used. In the case of the OMX, flat-mount anchorage is used, taking advantage of the fact that the top models of the components have these anchorages. The OMR, on the other hand, uses post-mount, which is valid for a wider range of components.
MyO customization
Orbea cares about customization and through its MyO program gives you the possibility to configure different components and finishes of the frame. It is an option with which Orbea wants to continue to differentiate itself from other brands. This time they go a step further and have added to this platform the possibility of customizing the OQUO wheels and the new Fiberlink linkage, thus raising the level of aesthetic finish.
All frames come with a lifetime warranty.
New specific geometry for 120 mm
If there's one thing that gives a bike its character, it's its geometry, and getting the numbers right can be the key to a model becoming a bestseller.
The brand has taken care to emphasize that this is not a down-country MTB or a model close to the trail, but quite the opposite. The new Oiz has been designed to maintain the spirit of XCO but adapting it to the new needs and for this they have opted for this geometry.
At the front we find a steering angle of 67º, relaxing 2º with respect to the previous one. The 450 mm reach is now longer, following current trends. The seat tube is more vertical at 76.5º, which is 1.5º more than the old Oiz in its XC version.
The Stack remains largely unchanged, but the bottom bracket height is lowered to 336 mm making it more stable on downhills, thanks in part also to the fact that the center of gravity is shifted in the same direction.
The short rear centre remain at only 432 mm, offering a similar reactivity on climbs as the previous Oiz.
