Movistar debuts a new Canyon Aeroad at Dauphiné
The Movistar Team riders are sporting a renewed Canyon Aeroad during the Critérium de Dauphiné. The bike features some novelties such as the handlebar with Gear Groove system or a new connection between the seat stays and the seat tube. The manufacturer remains silent about these modifications, although it is likely that the official announcement of the new release will come before the Tour.
The Movistar Team is premiering: the new evolution of the Canyon Aeroad CFR is already rolling at the Critérium de Dauphiné
The season is progressing non-stop and the professional peloton is already pedaling on the French roads on the occasion of the Critérium de Dauphiné 2024. The proximity in the calendar with the Tour makes it one of those last races to fine-tune form, a kind of dress rehearsal before packing bags for the Grande Boucle. Similarly, it is one of the chosen events by teams to test the equipment they will use in the French round. Thus, the Critérium de Dauphiné is also a good opportunity to see some novelties.

The Movistar Team has followed this philosophy and its riders have competed in the first stage with a renewed version of the Canyon Aeroad CFR. This is the model that Valtteri Bottas was seen with during the Monaco GP. The Aeroad is the brand's flagship aerodynamic model, one of the most sought-after bikes on the planet and whose last model dates back to 2020.
The version mounted by the Movistar team seems to be an evolution with some modifications, which move away from radical changes and excessive renovations. One of the most outstanding aspects is the new integrated handlebar that comes with the Gear Groove system, the Canyon-made solution to be able to mount several supports that accommodate lights or the cycle computer.
Although Canyon already has this system in handlebars intended for gravel, the arrival of Gear Groove on the road involves the creation of a new model that, for example, has less flare than its gravel brother.
Another highlighted feature is the connection of the seat stays, which now merge just above the tire; that is, they join together before reaching the seat tube filling the space that was previously between this tube and the wheel. The reason for this change could be related to aerodynamic gains, although there are no further details.
The German manufacturer relied on the good work of Swiss Side to develop the previous model which, of course, was tested in the wind tunnel. In the absence of information on this, it is unknown if the association has been renewed for this occasion.
In addition, it presents some minor less clear changes such as a seatpost that could be slightly thinner, a redesign of the clamp or a more aggressive left fork and chainstay.
Canyon remains silent and for now keeps the official release date of the new Aeroad under wraps. Despite this circumstance, it is quite likely that the announcement will come before the start of the Tour on June 29.
