Megamo Silk 2027: new builds and a mullet version for its most racing-focused gravel bike

Gravel 26/08/26 18:55 Migue A.

The Megamo Silk faces 2027 with a range renewal, although not of its platform. Megamo retains the second-generation frame launched last season, which has received such good reviews since then. It focuses the MY27 updates on the setups and colors. The result is a family of seven versions starting at 2,999 euros and culminating with the Silk 00 SLR at 8,999 euros.

The major technical novelty is the arrival of the Silk 04 SLR with SRAM mullet transmission, but new configurations with SRAM XPLR 13-speed and Shimano GRX Di2 also appear. The range also maintains its two levels of carbon, SLR and SL, the integrated handlebar, and a geometry clearly oriented towards competitive gravel.

Megamo Silk 2027: a gravel bike made for competition

Megamo makes the position of the Silk within its catalog quite clear. It is a bicycle designed around speed and competition. While the West occupies the more adventurous space of the range, the Silk seeks an aggressive position, high stiffness, and a quick response when riding at race paces.

The Megamo Silk is offered with two carbon layups that share exactly the same mold and geometry:

  • SLR (Super Light Race): the most advanced construction, focused on reducing weight and maximizing stiffness and power transfer.
  • SL (Super Light): maintains the sporty approach and seeks a balance between low weight, stiffness, efficiency, and comfort.

In the SLR frame, Megamo claims 940 grams for the frame, 435 g for the fork, and 157 g for the seat post. The complete bike starts at approximately 8.0 kg.

An aggressive geometry specific for fast gravel

One of the points that best explains the character of the Silk is its geometry. In size M, we find 395 mm of reach and 557 mm of stack, figures aimed at placing the rider in a low and forward position.

In that same size, the top tube measures 555 mm, the head tube angle is 71°, the seat tube angle is 74°, and the wheelbase reaches 1,034 mm.

Megamo also maintains 430 mm chainstays across all sizes, seeking a relatively compact and responsive rear end. The fork has a length of 400 mm and 45 mm of offset, while the bottom bracket drop is 71 mm.

The complete geometry announced by Megamo for MY27 is as follows:

Size Top Tube Head Tube Head Tube Angle Seat Tube Angle Reach Stack Wheelbase
XS 515 mm 90 mm 70° 74.5° 372 mm 516 mm 1,006 mm
S 535 mm 110 mm 70° 74° 382 mm 535 mm 1,022 mm
M 555 mm 130 mm 71° 74° 395 mm 557 mm 1,034 mm
L 580 mm 155 mm 71° 73.5° 408 mm 581 mm 1,055 mm
XL 595 mm 180 mm 71° 73.5° 416 mm 605 mm 1,071 mm

Sizes range from XS to XL, with a recommended height of approximately 158 to 210 cm.

Up to 52 mm tires in front

The evolution of competition gravel bikes towards wider tires is also present in the Silk.

Megamo establishes an official tire clearance of 45 mm both front and rear, but the physical space of the frame allows for up to 52 mm in the front wheel and 47 mm in the rear. As standard, all setups use Pirelli Cinturato Gravel RC 700x45c tires.

This is an important feature because it allows for a bike with a purely racing geometry while also adapting the tire to rougher or more technical routes, where the additional volume can provide grip, absorption, and control.

The frame is also compatible with 1x and 2x transmissions. When using a single chainring, the area of the front derailleur allows for the installation of a specific chain guide or a blank cover.

Integrated cockpit and completely internal cabling

The entire Silk 2027 range uses the integrated carbon Racing Gravel cockpit, developed by Megamo with the participation of its riders.

The handlebar and stem form a single unit, and the cabling runs completely inside, from the cockpit to the frame.

The handlebar features 75 mm of reach and 125 mm of drop, along with an 8° flare and a stem with -10° of tilt. Depending on the size, Megamo uses stems ranging from 70 to 110 mm and handlebar widths from 360 to 380 mm.

These dimensions again show the racing focus of the bike: relatively narrow handlebars to reduce frontal area and a low position, while maintaining some flare for better control when the terrain gets tricky.

The Megamo Silk 04 debuts a mullet 10-52 transmission

Here we find probably the most interesting novelty of the entire 2027 range. Megamo incorporates a Silk 04 SLR with a mullet setup, combining SRAM Rival XPLR AXS components with an Eagle Transmission from MTB. The configuration is 1x12 and uses a 10-52 cassette.

Compared to the XPLR transmissions purely aimed at gravel racing, the solution allows for a significantly wider range of gears and provides shorter ratios for steep climbs or particularly tough routes.

It is also a demonstration of how competitive gravel is absorbing solutions from mountain biking, especially now that larger volume tires, more technical routes, and wider gear ratios are gaining ground.

The Silk 04 retains the SLR frame and uses Fulcrum Lite GR wheels.

SRAM XPLR 13-speed dominates the high end

Above, we find three SLR setups based on the SRAM XPLR AXS 13-speed transmission.

The Silk 00 SLR leads the range with SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13s, power meter, and Zipp 303 XPLR SW Carbon wheels. Its announced price is 8,999 euros.

Black1

One step below is the Silk 01 SLR, equipped with SRAM Force XPLR AXS 13-speed, also with a power meter, and Zipp 303 XPLR S Carbon wheels. Its price is 5,999 euros.

The Silk 03 SLR replaces the previous Silk 02. It uses SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 13-speed and retains the Zipp 303 XPLR S Carbon wheels, but does without the power meter. In this way, Megamo reduces its price to 4,999 euros without giving up the SLR frame or the carbon wheels.

There is also room for Shimano GRX Di2 2x12

The Megamo Silk 05 SLR opens an alternative for those who prefer Shimano electronic transmission and a double chainring.

It features a Shimano GRX Di2 Mix 2x12 setup and Fulcrum Lite GR wheels on the same SLR frame used by the higher versions. Its price is 3,999 euros.

Below are the two Silks with SL construction.

The Silk 06 features Shimano GRX mechanical 2x12 and Fulcrum Lite GR for 3,299 euros, while the Silk 07 opts for Shimano GRX 1x12 and the same wheels for 2,999 euros.

New colors and a wider SLR range

The aesthetic offering also changes. In the SLR frames, the finishes Black, Marble Sand, and Grave are maintained. The latter is closely associated with the image of Megamo Gravel Racing and continues in the catalog after its good reception.

For the SL versions, Megamo introduces two new finishes: Sand and Deep Malva.

With the Megamo Silk 2027, the brand maintains a well-known base and focuses the changes on expanding the available options. With seven setups, two carbon constructions, and configurations ranging from SRAM XPLR 13-speed to Shimano GRX or the new mullet option, the range now offers more alternatives to adapt to different ways of competing in gravel.
