Magura expands the customization possibilities of its most powerful brakes with the new Gustav Ultra Lever, a lever developed in collaboration with Danny MacAskill that allows independent adjustment of the distance to the handlebar, the bite point, and the braking power. An update aimed at users of the Gustav Pro and Gustav Elite, priced at 84.90 euros each.

Magura presents the new Gustav Ultra, a lever with three independent adjustments and up to 10% more braking power

The German brand has introduced a new option for those seeking a more personalized braking feel in disciplines such as enduro, downhill, or e-MTB. The Magura Gustav Ultra is a lever compatible with the current Gustav Pro and Gustav Elite, adding additional adjustment possibilities compared to the original versions.

Until now, one of the most limited aspects of the Gustav was precisely its adjustability. The lever of the Gustav Pro allowed modification of the distance to the handlebar using a tool-free dial, while the new Ultra adds two adjustments that allow direct intervention on the brake response.

Three adjustments to tailor braking to each cyclist

The great novelty of the Gustav Ultra lies in its three independent adjustment systems, which allow modification of both ergonomics and brake behavior without the need to change other components.

The first is the Reach Adjust, which regulates the distance of the lever from the handlebar. Magura has expanded the available range and designed the end of the lever specifically for one-finger braking. This allows it to be positioned closer to the grip than in the Pro and Elite models, facilitating adaptation to different hand sizes.

The second adjustment, called Bite Point Adjust, allows modification of the lever's free travel before braking begins. It works through four positions and offers an adjustment range equivalent to 25% of the lever's travel. This way, the cyclist can choose between a more immediate response or a longer initial travel.

The third adjustment is probably the most interesting. The Power Adjust allows variation of the lever ratio and, with it, the balance between braking power and modulation capability. It is a solution inherited from the well-known HC3 lever of the Magura MT7, which offers a 15% adjustment range.

According to official data from Magura, the most powerful configuration can provide up to 10% more braking force compared to the original lever of the Gustav Pro.

The three adjustments are made with a 3 mm Allen key. This allows for a clean exterior design, although it means losing the convenience of the tool-free distance adjustment dial that comes standard with the Gustav Pro.

Danny MacAskill has participated in its development

The new lever also features the participation of Danny MacAskill, who previously collaborated with Magura in the development of the HC3 for the MT7.

The Scottish specialist has contributed his experience to create a lever capable of adapting to different terrains and riding situations. In the official presentation, he explains:

"After developing the adjustable HC3 lever for the MT7, this takes things to the next level! With the additional bite point adjustment function, I can now fine-tune the brake even more for different challenges on the bike. Most of the time I start with a two-thirds power setting and the bite point in the middle."

Magura even suggests different configurations depending on the terrain. On loose or slippery surfaces, it recommends reducing the power adjustment to favor modulation, while on high-grip terrains, it suggests increasing power and advancing the bite point for a more direct response.

Machined aluminum and only 4 grams more than the Pro lever

The Gustav Ultra is made from forged aluminum and subsequently machined using CNC. Its finish is polished silver with anodizing, and for now, it is the only color option announced.

Despite incorporating additional adjustment mechanisms, its declared weight is 48 grams per lever, just four grams more than the original Gustav Pro.

Regarding compatibility, Magura confirms its use with the Gustav Pro and Gustav Elite systems, but does not indicate compatibility with the Bosch eBike ABS system.

Price and availability of the new Magura Gustav Ultra

The new lever is already listed in Magura's official catalog with a recommended price of 84.90 euros per unit, 169.80 euros for the set.
