The Giant Reign 2023 comes to renew the brand's top model for enduro, and does so with an increase in travel -170 mm front and 160 mm rear- includes a flip-chip to modify the geometry and comes with 29" wheels with the option to put 27.5" at the rear. In total, Giant wants to satisfy all enduro riders with five different set-ups.

Giant Reign 2023: 3 bikes in 1

The Reign 2023 range consists of 5 models that can be divided into the Reign Advanced Pro -carbon frame-, the Reign -aluminium frame- and the Reign SX -aluminium frame and gravity oriented. At the end of the article you can find all the set-ups in detail.

What stands out most about the new Reign 2023 is its versatility and that, in part, has been achieved with a system of flip-chips located in the upper linkage and that will allow us to adopt 3 different geometries with a single change.

The geometry can thus be modified as follows: head angle, 63.5°, 63.9° or 64.2°; seat tube angle, 78.3°, 78.7° and 79°; and bottom bracket height, 35 mm, 30 mm or 25 mm.

In terms of wheel size, the Reign 2023 comes with 29" wheels front and rear, but has the option to fit a 27.5" wheel at the rear if you want more agility.

Configuration options are more limited on the Reign SX: the flip-chip has two positions (high and medium) while the wheels can only be fitted with the mullet option.

Upgraded suspension and other highlights

For the Reign 2023, Giant has opted for its acclaimed Maestro rear suspension system, but with an upgraded version. As a curiosity, the first generation Reign (now in its eighth generation) was one of the first bikes to use it.

Rear suspension travel has increased to 160 mm (previously 146 mm), while shock travel has also increased to 62.5 mm (previously 60 mm). Fork travel has been increased to 170 mm.

In the down tube there is an integrated storage space for tools, food, etc.

The EWS as a testing ground

In developing the new model, Giant worked with two pro riders from the Giant Factory Off-Road Team: Youn Deniaud and Mckay Vezina. Deniaud has been racing prototypes of this model throughout the Enduro World Series 2022 and explained how he has experienced the evolution: "I got more and more comfortable and got my best results later in the year. I think a lot of that has to do with the bike."

Set-ups

As explained above, the top of the range is called Reign Advanced Pro and has a carbon frame. For its part, the Reign has an aluminium ALUXX SL frame (largely made of 6011 aluminium). Finally, the Reign SX has the same aluminium frame but is more gravity oriented.
