Fizik Gravita X6 Tensor and Versor, we test the latest from Fizik for Trail, Enduro and DH
The Fizik brand is characterised by the great component of design and innovation that it applies to all its products. This has once again come to the fore in its new Fizik Gravita X6. A cycling shoe for Trail, Enduro and DH that comes to the Fizik catalogue in two models, Tensor and Versor, and both available for clipless or platform pedals.
Fizik Gravita X6 Tensor and Versor: efficiency, stability and control
To present the new Gravita X6, Fizik has relied on a team of engineers and professional DH cyclists who have spent months designing and improving prototypes until reaching the final version of the Gravita Tensor and Gravita Versor. Two models of cycling shoes aimed at the wildest MTB disciplines and which have managed to meet the requirements of the most demanding professional bikers, such as the components of the Orbea Fox Enduro.

The result is a shoe that is lightweight and agile but at the same time very resistant and with the necessary protection for this type of cycling. In addition, thanks to the precision fit they offer the ability to improve bike control.
The first thing that stands out is that the Fizik Gravita X6 are not as bulky shoes as they usually are for these disciplines. This has been achieved thanks to the upper made of ripstop nylon, very resistant and somewhat waterproof, and with a reduced and reinforced internal padding in sensitive areas.
In the outsole we find two versions, with and without clip, but in both we find the use of Vibram® Megagrip rubber, the most grippy compound of the Italian sole brand, accompanied by a low profile lug pattern that improves the coupling with the pedal. Both in the front and rear areas of the sole we find two well differentiated areas that allow a better traction when we have to walk with them.
As we have already said the upper is very resistant thanks to the ripstop fabric, but the armour of the Gravita X6 comes from the toe cap and sides reinforced with injected TPU. The toe and heel area are perfectly protected with this polyurethane shell that provides a lot of resistance without adding volume to the shoe.
Among the functional design details characteristic of Fizik, we see how the inside of the Gravita has been manufactured as a sock to prevent the entry of stones or other materials. In the Gravita X6 Tensor, this sock goes up to the inner part of the ankle to protect it in case of impact. In addition, we find the now classic Fizik Ergolace system, whereby the laces are positioned asymmetrically to improve the fit without impairing the circulation of the foot. In the Gravita X6 Tensor model we find the lateral Velcro strap that allows for an even more precise fit and tension.

Riding with the new Fizik Gravita X6
We were lucky enough to have a pair of each model of the new Fizik Gravita X6 a few weeks before their launch and the truth is that they have not left us indifferent. The quality that Fizik is used to offer is very present in these Gravita X6 and it is evident from the moment we take them out of the box.
The ripstop fabric on the upper is very resistant and gives us the peace of mind of knowing that if it were to break, the fabric will withstand the breakage in a very specific area, and will not end up breaking completely. In any case, the first details can be appreciated when we see that the ripstop fabric on the inside has been covered with another soft, micro-perforated fabric, it will not even be in contact with our foot with the inner liner, but we appreciate this level of high-end finishes. Another quality detail is the "gumming" around the laces to avoid fragile areas in the upper.
Once on, the shoe feels roomy on the inside but has a sharper look from the outside, which is very different from other enduro shoes. The Ergolace fit is appreciated when you want to tighten up the laces, and that's when the off-centre position makes more sense. Although the truth is that the Tensor model, with Velcro, invites you not to tighten the laces too much and to finish the adjustment quicker and easier with the strap.
The Megagrip outsole we have already tested in other trail running shoes, where grip is even more vital, and we can only say that it is one of the best rubber on the market in this respect. Although the low profile tread pattern of the Gravita does make the connection between the shoe and the pedal very easy.
What we liked the most about the Gravita X6 is definitely the pronounced toe protection. It really looks like an outer box that wraps around our toes and gives a lot of security in any situation. We were literally able to kick a rock without having to attend to bruised toes and nails afterwards.
The real issue that we faced during the test and which we think will be the most common problem for buyers will be which one to choose. And here we think that weight and stiffness will be decisive, even more so than price.
In terms of protection, it is true that the Tensor offers a little more security with the area that covers the inner ankle but we believe that the powerful outer TPU cover is the one that offers more protection and that is in both of them. On the other hand, the fit is quicker and more precise in the Tensor but nothing that can't be solved if we spend a few minutes tightening the laces. So between these two models, we will have to see if we prefer a lighter shoe, the Gravita X6 Versor, or one with more features but a few grams heavier, the Gravita X6 Tensor.
Once we have chosen the model, the question of choosing a clipless or flat shoe should come on its own, the difference in stiffness between one and the other is very noticeable. Here are our reasons for always choosing clipless pedals, but in these modalities sometimes platform pedals are non-negotiable.
