A closer look at the new Cervélo R5 of Marianne Vos equipped with SRAM
Days of hard work for the mechanics of Jumbo-Visma after the change of sponsors in charge of supplying the groupsets and wheels of their bikes, which are now the responsibility of SRAM and Reserve respectively. A meticulous work for riders like Marianne Vos to have their new machines ready from January 1st.
Setting up the new Cervélo R5 that Marianne Vos will use in the most mountainous days
A few weeks ago the news became known: Jumbo-Visma would switch to SRAM groupsets in 2023, breaking a long tradition in the Dutch structure of collaboration with Shimano. The cyclists will have to get used to these new groupsets quickly, as the new season is just around the corner. In fact, some, like Wout Van Aert in cyclocross, will start racing with the new material already the same week of the new year.
In the increasingly careful communication work carried out by teams and brands, SRAM has shown us in a detailed video the entire process of setting up one of their bikes. A very special one since it is the one that will be used by one of the best cyclists of all time: Marianne Vos.

In it we can see that thanks to the completely wireless operation of the SRAM Red eTap AXS the assembly of the bike, with its hoses fully routed inside the frame, is relatively simple. Or details like the fact that, despite being a brand new bike, the derailleur hanger pin alignment is checked before fitting to ensure 100% precise operation.
The Marianne Vos Cervélo R5 features a SRAM Red cassette with 10-33 sprockets, and a chain also designed for Red with gold finishes that match perfectly with the yellow and black of the Jumbo-Visma. On the other hand, the cranks and levers are also slightly different from the ones we can buy in stores because their graphics are different, with the AXS logo on the former and the SRAM logo much more clearly visible on the latter, a logo of the American brand that has also come to occupy a prominent place on the chainstays.
The choice of tyres is also striking, especially for a cyclist as slim as Marianne Vos. The size 28 and the tubeless use are already clearly the standard in professional cycling, in this case, a Vittoria Corsa. In the case of Marianne Vos' Cervélo R5, the Reserve wheels are fitted with 34 mm front and 37 mm rear profiles, which are also a new addition to the material available from Jumbo-Visma in 2023.
