New BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP X: an electric endurance with many capabilities

BMC has presented the Roadmachine 01 AMP X to add another electric bike to its catalogue. This time it is a bike that is somewhere between road and gravel. A road bike with elements of a gravel bike. It is designed for cyclists looking for long distances, with a more relaxed geometry than the Roadmachine AMP and is equipped with a 300W and 50NM motor and a 360Wh battery.

Roadmachine 01 AMP X: a hybrid capable of everything

The main feature of this bike is its versatility: BMC has designed a machine capable of riding sufficiently on road and gravel. They have used good materials and quality components - which are specified below - and have worked seriously on the geometry and adapted the characteristics of the well-known Roadmachine AMP to make it a bike that can do well on both gravel and tarmac surfaces.

The electric unit: well-integrated motor and battery

The Roadmachine 01 AMP X is made for what it is made for. The TQ-HPR50 motor and battery are smaller than other models on the market. You could give numerous examples of bikes with more capable motors and larger batteries, but then you would be being unfair to this BMC, which does not pretend to compete with them in numbers.

Rather, it is intended to assist users who need more occasional help. It is a bike for those who have already mastered the pedals but need a little help at times. The electric part, therefore, is not designed to be used for many kilometres or for rides that require repeated use.

Of course, this motor also has advantages over larger motors. For example, it is lighter and smaller, which means that it can be integrated into the bike without detracting too much from the aesthetics of the bike. In addition, it has a fully integrated 2" display.

Geometry is on the rise

Beyond the carbon fork and frame, BMC has taken care to highlight the geometry of its Roadmachine 01 AMP X. In fact, the geometry is one of the elements they've put the most emphasis on. Their main goal was to make the bike capable of long days of riding.

The geometry is "relaxed endurance" according to the brand's definition. Translated into the (almost) always enlightening language of numbers, it has a stack of 570 mm and a reach of 383 mm in size 54.

Taking this size as a reference, another important parameter is the 74.2° of the seat tube, vertical to improve pedalling efficiency but without being too extreme. In addition, the steering angle is 72.2°, which we could say is a measurement that is within the average for road bikes.

The geometry is related to the technology that BMC has named Tuned Compliance Concept Endurance (TCC Endurance). This is the design and manufacture of frames with the aim of seeking flexibility so that it is comfortable - especially over long distances - but at the same time does not detract from its speed. All Roadmachine frames use this technology in the seat stays, seat post and fork.

Its gravel side

So far the bike described in this article could be a road e-bike, but this BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP X also combines elements of gravel. The most prominent of these are its tyres. The tyres have a generous 35 mm width and can handle the off-road surfaces of this discipline.

However, thanks to an even more generous wheel arch, it is possible to fit tyres up to 38 mm wide.

It can also be fitted with mudguards, and the Swiss firm claims to have subjected the bike to the most stringent impact tests so that it can be ridden on gravel roads with the utmost peace of mind. The bike is internally cabled and the rear light is connected to the battery.
