The Aeolus RSL are the fastest tires created by Bontrager
Bontrager, Trek's component brand, launches new Aeolus RSL competition tires that not only are part of the wheels' aerodynamic profile but also feature a new compound that provides a savings of 3.7 W compared to their current top-of-the-line tires.
New Bontrager top-of-the-line tires now available
In a time where everything seems to be dominated by aerodynamics when it comes to making a bike fast, we often forget about a component as simple as tires, which in recent years have evolved enormously to minimize rolling resistance, one of the factors that, after wind resistance, most opposes the progress of cyclists.

In addition to improving rolling resistance, the new Bontrager Aeolus RSL tires feature a cross-sectional design that integrates perfectly with the brand's wheels as part of their aerodynamics. In any case, the main gains come from rolling resistance, which improves compared to the current R3 TLR model to achieve a 3.7 W improvement measured at 35 km/h with a load of 68 kg and in a size of 700x28c.
Responsible for this improvement is the new tread compound, with a harder rubber in the center and softer on the sides to maintain high grip in corners. Also contributing to the excellent performance of these Bontrager Aeolus RSL tires is their new cotton casing with a fiber density of 320 TPI, resulting in great flexibility to fully adapt to the road in any circumstance.
Interestingly, none of the Trek Madone Gen 8 models presented by the brand last week come standard with these new tires, opting for Pirelli models in the top-of-the-line setups to seek similarity with those used by the Lidl-Trek team, or the current Bontrager R3 TLR in the mid-range setups.
These Bontrager Aeolus RSL tires are now available on their website and in Trek's extensive network of stores with sizes ranging from 700x26c to 700x32c and priced at 89.99 €.
