Zwift expands Watopia with three new islands and 17 kilometres of roads along the ocean
Watopia continues to grow and from today it has a new area to pedal through. Zwift has just launched The Wild Isles, an archipelago of three islands that adds about 18 kilometers of roads, with large flat stretches alongside the ocean and new circuits designed for competition.
The expansion arrives in the midst of indoor cycling season and is part of the new features that Zwift announced last September, when it also introduced the Zwift Ride V2 and training functions like Watt Lock.

Beyond expanding the map, the main novelty lies in where these roads have been built. The new islands connect the Maya Jungle area with Jarvis Island and allow movement between both without facing the climbs that have previously conditioned some routes.

This opens up new possibilities for designing long routes with less elevation gain and linking different areas of Watopia without accumulating so many meters of ascent.
The landscape also changes completely. Zwift has drawn inspiration from the California coast and, in particular, from Santa Catalina Island to recreate an environment of coastal roads, bridges, and small towns by the sea. During the rides, bison, whales, seabirds, and other animals appear as part of the scenery.

Another addition is two new circuits specifically for criterium-style races, with short layouts that allow for lap competitions. They are Caldera Cruiser and Seafoam Circuit, two areas that can also be used for training and group rides.
Nine new cycling routes and three for running
The Wild Isles debuts with nine cycling routes that take advantage of the new roads and their connections with the rest of Watopia.
Among them, The Watopia 150 stands out, a route of over 150 kilometers that is completely flat, designed for those looking to accumulate distance without elevation. At the opposite end is Seafoam Circuit, with just 4.1 kilometers, while California Roll offers an alternative of nearly 34 kilometers with little elevation.
The nine routes available from launch are:
- Caldera Coaster
- The Watopia 150
- Seafoam Circuit
- Laps, Camera, Traction
- Watt Goes Up Must Come Down
- Four Foalsmen
- California Dreamin’
- California Roll
- Pacific Pursuit
The update also includes three routes for runners: Seafoam Scamper, Lightning Lap Run, and Lava Legs.
The expansion is already available since October 26 and coincides with the start of the fourth stage of the Tour of Watopia, which runs until November 2. California Dreamin’, California Roll, and Pacific Pursuit are precisely the three routes chosen for this phase of the event, where participants can earn double experience points.
