Yamaha celebrates 30 years from its first ebike
Yamaha is blowing out the candles of its 30 years in the world of electric bikes. The Japanese are celebrating this anniversary with the launch of a special edition of the YDX-MORO 07. The brand reviews its long history in the cycling industry and presents this model that costs around 6,050 euros.
Yamaha honors itself for its 30th anniversary in ebikes
The ebikes are living one of their best moments thanks to a demand that in recent times has grown year after year. But this was not always the case: a decade ago they accounted for only 1% of all bikes sold in Spain, according to the AMBE annual report. Yamaha was one of those pioneers who planted the seed of ebikes 30 years ago.
In fact, the brand claims the honor of being the creator of the first ebike with pedal assistance, the well-known PAS (Power Assist System). After years of testing with gasoline, Yamaha designed an electric prototype in 1989 and four years later, in 1993, the first model went on sale.

YDX-MORO 07 Special Edition ready for celebration
In celebration of its 30-year relationship with ebikes, Yamaha has released a special version of its YDX-MORO 07. The bike uses this model as a base, but features several elements that result in a "thoroughbred for the next generation of e-MTB riders," as Yamaha's Smart Power Vehicle division director Rob Trester referred to it.
First things of note are the polished aluminum finish coat, a 30th anniversary detail located on the top tube and a style decal on the seat tube.
Yamaha wanted to equip it with its best motor, the PW-X3, which has numbers of 85 Nm, 250 watts of nominal assistance and seven riding modes.
The bike has a 160 mm travel fork and 150 mm rear suspension. Shifting is handled by the Shimano XT SL-M8100-R and uses Maxxis and REKON for the front and rear wheels, respectively.
