Wolf Tooth ALT Performance XC arrive as a more affordable alternative to the ALT

Wolf Tooth expands its catalog of automatic pedals with the new ALT Performance XC, a more affordable version of its XC and gravel-oriented ALT. They maintain compatibility with SPD cleats and much of the design of the higher models, but use a simpler construction to reduce the price to 185 euros.

Wolf Tooth ALT Performance XC: 326 grams and only 15 mm thick

The new ALT Performance XC retains one of the main features of the family with a relatively compact and very thin body. Wolf Tooth claims a thickness of 15 mm, aiming to reduce the chances of hitting the pedal against stones, roots, or the ground while pedaling and cornering.

The open design around the anchoring mechanism is also intended to facilitate mud evacuation, an aspect especially important in pedals designed for mountain biking and gravel.

Its declared weight is 326 grams per pair, only 31 grams more than the conventional ALT XC, while the contact area reaches 534 mm². The mechanism offers 5 degrees of angular freedom and 12 degrees for release, and is fully compatible with the SPD standard. Wolf Tooth includes the cleats with the pedals.

A simpler construction to lower the price

The main difference compared to the higher-end ALT XC is in the materials and manufacturing. Instead of a fully CNC machined body in aluminum 6061-T6, the ALT Performance uses forged aluminum and then machined. The axles and various metal elements also transition from stainless steel in the higher model to chromoly steel with surface treatments.

The adjustable Q-Factor of 51, 55, or 59 mm is also eliminated. In the Performance, it is fixed at 55 mm.

Internally, Wolf Tooth maintains an architecture derived from its Waveform pedals, with three low-friction cartridge bearings, an igus bushing, and a radial seal designed to protect the assembly from water and dirt.

Repairable and priced at 185 euros

The ALT Performance is part of Wolf Tooth's Right to Repair program. The brand offers spare parts for numerous components, including axles and bearings, as well as manuals and tutorials so that maintenance and disassembly can be done at home.

The pedals have been designed and tested at Wolf Tooth's headquarters in Minnesota and come with two years of warranty. The brand also assures that they have passed static and fatigue tests above the EN/ISO safety standards.

The new Wolf Tooth ALT Performance XC is now available for 185 euros, compared to 250 euros for the ALT XC and 415 euros for the ultralight ALT XC MKØ.

With them, Wolf Tooth brings its specific pedal for XC and gravel to a lower price tier, maintaining SPD compatibility and many of the fundamental features of the ALT family.
