Van Aert puts Van der Poel as favourite to win the CX World Championships
We don't know if it's a strategy or a stroke of sincerity. The fact is that Van Aert says Van der Poel is the favourite for the final victory in the World Championships.
Despite Overijse, Van Aert puts Van der Poel as the favourite
Often, athletes take all favouritism off their shoulders and hand it over to their opponents. It happens in absolutely every sport. A strategy that has been around for centuries and serves one clear purpose: to put all the pressure on the opponent to win.

Wout Van Aert seems to have done just that. The Belgian says that Mathieu Van der Poel is the favourite to wear the rainbow jersey at the next cyclo-cross World Championships. Just days after beating him in Overijse in the World Cup and eventually winning it, Van Aert now thinks Van der Poel is the man to beat.
Of course, Van Aert has given his arguments. He claims that the Oostende circuit is completely different from Overijse and that Van der Poel is the current World Champion, so he gives the Dutchman every chance to repeat his World Championship victory.
Van der Poel talks about two favourites
Last Sunday Van Aert stopped Van der Poel's upward projection in the Cyclo-cross World Cup. Both went into the final race with a chance to win the competition but Van Aert ended up winning both the race and the overall competition. It was the third time he had beaten Van der Poel this season.
But it seems that it is not enough. Van Aert believes Van der Poel is the most serious contender for the World Championships in Oostende. If he wins, Van der Poel would become a four-time Cyclo-cross World Champion, the third in a row.
"Van der Poel has shown in the last few weeks that he is the favourite," Van Aert said. "I think we have two big favourites, me and Wout," said Van der Poel just after the World Cup. Mathieu has been concentrated in Spain for a few weeks getting ready for the race.
Once again Belgian and Dutch, Dutch and Belgian, return to a race to delight us with a battle that has been going on for decades. Wout Van Aert and Mathieu Van der Poel have been fighting for the same goals and racing together since they were kids. The problem is that there can only be one World Champion. Who will it be?
