Urška Žigart suffers another serious setback just three months after her severe fall in the Tour de Switzerland. The Slovenian cyclist fell during the third stage of the Faun Tour Femmes, and medical tests have confirmed a new jaw fracture. Her team, AG Insurance-Soudal, is practically considering her season over.

The fall occurred during the third stage of the Faun Tour Femmes, held on Saturday. Žigart had to abandon the race after the accident and was later subjected to medical tests that confirmed the fracture.

The injury is particularly tough as it affects the jaw again, which was already fractured last June during the Tour de Switzerland. On that occasion, Žigart suffered a violent fall in the last kilometer of the second stage after losing control of her bike while going over a speed bump at high speed. She was taken to the hospital, and AG Insurance-Soudal later confirmed the fracture.

That accident also had a strong impact on Tadej Pogacar, who was competing in the men's Tour de Switzerland and went to the hospital after finishing his stage to accompany her.

Žigart managed to recover and return to competition. In fact, she had found a good level again and before her fall was in third place in the overall classification of the Faun Tour Femmes. Now, this second fracture in just three months completely halts her season again.

AG Insurance-Soudal believes that, due to the nature of the injury and the timing of the season, it is most likely that Žigart will not compete again in 2026. This means she will not be able to be part of the Slovenian team in the upcoming World Championship in Montreal.

The fall could also change Pogacar's plans for the World Championship

The injury comes just a few days after it was announced that Tadej Pogacar was planning to travel to the World Championship in Canada to support the Slovenian team and Žigart herself.

Pogacar will also be unable to compete in Montreal after the serious fall he suffered in La Vuelta, where he fractured his left collarbone and sustained a stable fracture of the C7 vertebra. UAE Team Emirates-XRG has already confirmed that his season is over, and the Slovenian is focused on his recovery.

Despite this, coach Uroš Murn had confirmed that Pogacar would travel to Canada during the week of the World Championship. One of the reasons was precisely to accompany and support Žigart, as well as to be with the rest of the team.

The new injury now changes that scenario. It has not yet been confirmed whether Pogacar will maintain his trip to Montreal after Žigart has been ruled out of the World Championship.
