Tom Pidcock after his victory in Nove Mesto "I think I was born for mountain biking"
Tom Pidcock's performance to win the Nove Mesto XCO World Cup has left us all speechless. It was his first victory in the elite category, but in the process he took with him a number of historic milestones in the sport.
Tom Pidcock makes history in Nove Mesto
As we have been saying for weeks, we already knew that Tom Pidcock's level was very high. The performance he had achieved during his season on the road was enough to justify seeing him at the front on circuits like Albstadt where the physical aspect took priority over technique.

But the British rider has cleared up any doubts by achieving his first victory in the elite category on the most technical circuit of the entire World Cup, and at the same time he has done it by winning with the biggest advantage ever achieved in this temple of mountain biking. To top it off, he did it beating Mathieu Van der Poel, one of the toughest rivals in recent years and with an astonishing superiority. Pidcock is the first British rider to win a World Cup since 1994.
But if all this seems incredible to us, Pidcock himself has declared after the race that he is still working on the base for his main objective, the Tokyo Olympics. In other words, he is not yet at 100%.
In the same statements he said that he believes he was born for mountain biking and confirmed that his place for the Olympic Games is still up in the air as he would not be eligible for the Olympic Games by country.
