226ERS expands its High Fructose family with a format designed especially for those who need to consume a large amount of carbohydrates during training and competitions. The new High Fructose Gummy Bars bring the well-known combination of glucose and fructose from the brand into a 60-gram gummy with 46 grams of carbohydrates.

226ERS High Fructose Gummy Bar: 46 grams of carbohydrates in a tasty gummy

Nutrition during exercise has evolved towards increasingly higher carbohydrate intakes, especially in cycling and other endurance disciplines. The problem is not always knowing how much to consume, but rather being able to ingest those amounts over several hours without relying solely on gels and drinks.

This is where 226ERS comes in with its new High Fructose Gummy Bars, a new solid and chewy format that joins its High Fructose range. Each unit weighs 60 grams and contains 46 grams of carbohydrates, as well as sodium and caffeine depending on the variety.

The formulation maintains one of the main characteristics of the family, its glucose:fructose ratio of 10:8. By using different intestinal absorption pathways (SGLT1 for glucose and GLUT5 for fructose), it aims to increase the amount of carbohydrates that the body can absorb and oxidize during exercise. According to 226ERS, this approach allows for nutritional strategies that exceed 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour.

An alternative to chaining gels for hours

But probably the most interesting aspect of these new High Fructose Gummy Bars is not only their composition but also their format. 226ERS presents them as another option to introduce carbohydrates during exercise and to alternate them with gels, drinks, or bars. Their gummy texture allows for chewing and is specifically developed to facilitate consumption on the go, even during high-intensity moments.

For a cyclist following, for example, a strategy of 90 or 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour, a single gummy would already provide 46 grams, which adds another option and makes it much easier to reach those figures by combining it with other products like gels or drinks.

Additionally, all versions include sodium to help replenish electrolytes lost through sweat. The amount varies depending on the flavor, and there is also a version with caffeine.

Four flavors and a version with 100 mg of caffeine

The initial range consists of four options:

  • Lime: 100 mg of sodium.
  • Banana: 100 mg of sodium.
  • Cherry: 100 mg of sodium and 100 mg of caffeine.
  • Salty Caramel: 250 mg of sodium.

All come in an individual format of 60 grams, are vegan and vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free. Additionally, 226ERS points out that the product has been tested by the Movistar Team and is included in the Cologne List.

The recommended price is 3 euros per unit for any of the four versions.

Our impressions with the 226ERS High Fructose Gummy Bar

After trying all four flavors during several rides, we find the format particularly suitable for cycling as it is easy to carry several units in the jersey pocket and opening them on the go is very simple. The bite is pleasant and, after several hours of liquids and gels, the simple act of chewing provides a texture change that is appreciated and helps continue eating when a certain saturation starts to set in. Although personal tastes come into play here, our favorites so far have been the Cherry and Salty Caramel flavors.

Regarding digestive tolerance, we have had no issues and have digested the gummy well from the first trial. However, it is important to keep in mind that each unit provides 46 g of carbohydrates, a considerable amount to ingest at once, so someone who is not used to such intakes might have a different experience. It is also advisable to choose and alternate flavors according to needs. We have reserved Cherry, with 100 mg of caffeine, for moments when we sought an extra boost of motivation, while Salty Caramel, with 250 mg of sodium, we have used more during hot summer rides, when sodium losses through sweat are greater.

In our experience, it is a very suitable product for varying flavors, texture, and sensations during long rides, something that can be important to continue eating when we are already saturated with gels and liquids. We only found one small practical detail to keep in mind. If you are not going to eat the gummy all at once, it is worth opening the wrapper carefully so you can fully reinsert it before storing it in the jersey. Otherwise, it is easy to end up with a sticky pocket.

The new High Fructose Gummy Bars are already available through the brand's website.
