The Assos Mille GT S11 jersey and shorts belong to this new line, and the first thing that surprises when taking both garments out of their boxes is the quality that has given this brand so much cachet. There are no loose threads, the transitions between fabrics are clean, and the feel is spectacular.

The Shorts: The heart of the equipment

The MILLE GT Bib Shorts S11 brings important innovations. The main fabric feels firm yet incredibly soft. Assos has redesigned the leg cut, slightly lengthening them for a more modern look, and has replaced the classic silicone bands with a raw-cut (live cut) finish with micro grip points.

But the crown jewel is the S11 chamois. It maintains the generous 11 mm of viscoelastic foam (Shock-Absorb Damping), and continues to use the goldenGate technology. For those who are not familiar with it, the sides of the chamois are not sewn to the shorts, allowing the protection to "float" and move with your body, eliminating annoying static friction against the skin.

The Jersey: Touching weightlessness

The MILLE GT Jersey S11 EVO is a work of art in thermoregulation. The chest and back are constructed with a main fabric called AirCell. It has such a fine and open hexagonal pattern that the brand itself advises to use sunscreen underneath (it only offers UPF 15 in that area).

In contrast, the sleeves use the Push Pull fabric (with UPF 50+ protection), finished without seams to avoid strangling the biceps. At the back, the Stabilizer V11 panel ensures that the three pockets (equipped with the internal retention system Triple Ramp) do not bounce when loaded.

The perfect synergy in motion

We have tested the set on days of intense heat, looking for long climbs where speed drops and the cooling of the jersey is put to the test, followed by long flat transitions to evaluate the comfort of the chamois.

The Fit (RegularFit): Assos calls this cut RegularFit. It is the perfect answer for cyclists who want to be tight and aerodynamic, but without looking vacuum-packed. The set hugs you, but allows you to breathe deeply. The straps of the shorts, with their "X" design (X-Frame), are wide and distribute tension across the back masterfully; they do not dig into the shoulders at any moment.

Heat management: Climbing at low speeds, the S11 EVO jersey is a spectacle. The breeze penetrates directly through the chest, drying sweat almost instantly. It is the closest thing to riding without a jersey, but with the support and pockets you need. The seamless sleeves act like a true second skin.

Crossing the 4-hour barrier: This is where the set justifies every euro of its price. On long rides, the S11 chamois shows why Assos has gained and maintains such a good reputation among enthusiasts and professionals. The foam does not give in over the hours, there is no numbness, and thanks to the goldenGate, chafing in the groin is history. The shorts stay in place thanks to the new leg finishes, without creating the dreaded "sausage effect" on the thigh.

Additionally, loading the pockets of the jersey to the brim (large phone, gels, tools, and vest) does not deform the garment. The back remains stable and you do not feel the weight pulling your neck back.

Buying an Assos set is never a decision taken lightly due to the price factor (we are talking about a joint investment of around 300 €). However, after testing the S11 generation of the MILLE GT, the conclusion is that it is an investment in quality of life on the bike.

This set achieves the balance dreamed of by the demanding amateur cyclist: it makes you look and feel like a professional due to the fit and materials, but takes care of you with comfort designed for being on the bike all day. If this summer you have Gran Fondo challenges in mind, long cycling tours, or simply want to stop suffering discomfort on the saddle, the MILLE GT S11 set is probably the best upgrade you can make to your cycling wardrobe.
