Filippo Ganna dominates the opening time trial and takes the leader's jersey in the 2026 Tirreno-Adriatico
The Tirreno-Adriatico 2026 began with a result as expected as it was decisive. Filippo Ganna clearly dominated the opening time trial held in Lido di Camaiore and became the first leader of the race after delivering a performance far superior to that of the other specialists.
Filippo Ganna crushes the initial time trial and dons the leader's jersey in the Tirreno-Adriatico 2026
The first stage consisted of an individual time trial of 11.5 kilometers completely flat, starting and finishing in Lido di Camaiore. The route, fast and exposed along the promenade, favored the strong riders of the peloton.
In that terrain, Ganna once again demonstrated why he is one of the best time trialists in the world. The Italian set the best time with a record of 12:08, establishing a very notable difference from the early splits. In the second half of the course, he increased the pace even more to secure an uncontestable victory.
The dominance of INEOS Grenadiers was also reflected in the standings, as Thymen Arensman finished second, 22 seconds behind, and Magnus Sheffield also placed among the best times of the day.

Beyond the battle for the stage, the day left the first differences among the candidates for the general classification. Arensman was the one who performed best among the contenders for the final victory, placing immediately behind his teammate.
Primož Roglič limited his losses well in terrain that is not the most favorable for him and finished within the top 10, just over half a minute behind the winner. Antonio Tiberi also finished very close, while Isaac Del Toro rounded out the top ten positions of the day.
Although the differences are not decisive, this first day already sets the first references for the more demanding stages that will come in the following days in the race of the two seas.
