The SuperWorld Championship 2027 paves the way for Van der Poel, Pidcock, or Pieterse to compete in road and XCO

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has presented the official calendar of the 2027 Super World Cycling Championships, which will take place in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc (France) from August 24 to September 5. The major event will bring together 20 World Championships, distribute 288 rainbow jerseys, and feature the participation of more than 15,000 cyclists from the 206 national federations affiliated with the UCI.

The 2027 Super World already has a calendar and opens the door again to the great challenge of Van der Poel, Pidcock, or Pieterse

Beyond the numbers, there is a detail in the program that particularly stands out. Just as happened in the first Super World held in Glasgow 2023, the distribution of events leaves enough margin between the road World Championship and the XCO World Championship, making it possible for some of the best multidisciplinary cyclists in the world to consider competing for both titles.

In 2023, we already saw how several riders took advantage of this format to compete in different disciplines, and in 2027 names like Mathieu van der Poel, Tom Pidcock, or Puck Pieterse could have that option again if they maintain their multidisciplinary calendar.

Road first, MTB later

The design of the program facilitates participation in multiple disciplines, something that the UCI itself highlights as one of the event's objectives.

The elite men's road race will take place on August 29 in Sallanches-Domancy, on a course that will feature the iconic climb of Domancy, the scene of the historic world title won by Bernard Hinault in 1980.

After that, there will be a small gap before the start of the mountain bike block. The Cross Country Olympic (XCO) events will be held in Les Gets from September 2 to 4, leaving several days of separation from the road race.

This interval is again sufficient for specialists capable of performing at their best in both modalities to attempt a double challenge that, in a conventional World Championship, is practically impossible due to date overlaps.

A calendar designed for multidisciplinary cyclists

The UCI itself explains that the program has been developed to encourage participation in more than one discipline. The organization reminds us that it is increasingly common to find riders alternating between road and mountain bike, road and track, gravel and MTB, or even different modalities of paracycling.sw6-0724-bd-667becfe-f78f-4d7a-a812-685d741c34f0-1784621892732-1

This approach was already one of the hallmarks of the Glasgow 2023 Super World and will be repeated in France, reinforcing the concept of bringing together all the major disciplines of cycling in a single event.

The main dates of the 2027 Super World

  • August 24: start of the Super World.
  • August 26-27: Gravel World Championship (Châtel-Portes du Soleil).
  • August 27-28: finals of the Downhill World Championship (Les Gets).
  • August 29: elite men's road World Championship.
  • August 30: time trials begin.
  • September 1: elite time trials.
  • September 2-4: XCC/XCO World Championship in Les Gets.
  • September 5: elite women's road World Championship and closing of the Super World.

In addition to MTB, road, and gravel, the program will include BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, track, esports, trials, artistic cycling, cycle-ball, and all paracycling competitions, spread over the thirteen days of competition.

The 2027 edition will once again make the Super World the largest cycling event ever organized, with a structure that not only seeks to give visibility to all disciplines but also to enable the top versatile specialists to aspire to multiple rainbow jerseys at a single event.
