The new SCOTT Addict Gravel 2027 pushes the limits: MTB tyres and a frame weighing under 800 g

Gravel 03/09/26 16:00 Migue A.

The SCOTT Addict Gravel 2027 debuts a deep renovation that considerably expands its range of action. The new generation abandons part of the purely fast gravel approach to become a more capable bike when the terrain gets complicated, but without giving up low weight and sporty handling. The enormous tire clearance of up to 57 mm is probably the most striking change, although behind it lies a revised geometry, much more vertical flex, integrated storage, and a new specific cockpit.

New SCOTT Addict Gravel: more capability without sacrificing performance

SCOTT defines the Addict Gravel within its Ride category, shared with the road Addict. This allows us to understand that this new generation does not aim to become a heavy bikepacking bike or a mountain bike with a road handlebar, but to maintain an efficient and sporty position while gaining comfort, stability, and possibilities off the fast tracks.

And to achieve this, SCOTT has modified practically all the elements that condition its behavior: frame, fork, geometry, cockpit, tires, and load capacity.

Up to 57 mm of tire clearance and compatibility with 2.2" MTB tires

The figure that best summarizes the change is the maximum tire clearance of 57 mm. It is an extraordinarily generous number for a lightweight carbon gravel bike and places the Addict Gravel in a territory that until recently was reserved for models clearly oriented towards adventure.

As standard, the range comes with Schwalbe G-One RX PRO Evolution 700x50C, seeking a compromise between speed, grip, stability, and absorption. But SCOTT assures that the frame allows the use of the largest gravel tires currently available and even 2.2-inch MTB tires.

Achieving such space without excessively lengthening the rear has required significant structural work. The chainstays continue to measure 425 mm in all sizes, while some sections have been reduced to a striking 8.5 mm.

It is precisely that combination, of 57 mm clearance and 425 mm chainstays, one of the most interesting technical details of this generation. SCOTT tries to gain capability over broken terrain without turning it into an excessively long or slow-reacting bike.

Up to 60% more rear flex and 30% in front

The second major goal has been comfort. But SCOTT has not resorted to suspensions, elastomers, or joints, but has worked directly with the controlled deformation of carbon structures.

In the rear area, we find a concept derived from the road Addict. The reduced section of the seat tube facilitates its deformation, the lower stays are designed to flex outward, and the top tube can experience a small vertical deflection.

According to the figures provided by SCOTT, the result is a 60% increase in rear flex compared to the previous generation when using a rigid seatpost. Even compared to the previous Addict Gravel equipped with the brand's comfort seatpost, the improvement reaches 25%.

The fork has not been left out either. Its legs adopt a curved shape and are combined with a smaller diameter head tube and the new integrated front assembly to achieve 30% more front flex.

The intention is for the frame and fork to help filter vibrations and small impacts before they reach the cyclist. This is complemented by the enormous volume of the 50 mm tires installed as standard.

A new geometry: longer and more stable, but maintaining agility

The increase in tire size has forced SCOTT to deeply review the geometry.

Compared to the previous generation, the stack increases by 10 mm and the reach by another 10 mm, although this last increase is offset by a cockpit that is 10 mm shorter. That is, the frame becomes longer, but SCOTT does not necessarily intend to stretch the effective position of the cyclist by another 10 mm.

ADDICT GR27 34 FRT Eb0b05

The bottom bracket has also been lowered to compensate for the larger diameter of the wheels, and the fork offset is increased, which is now 60 mm in all sizes. The head angle maintains 70° across the range.

With these changes, the front center increases and the front wheel is positioned further away from the cyclist. The goal is to improve stability and confidence when speed increases or more technically complicated areas appear, without losing too much reactive character.

The size M, for example, presents 398 mm of reach, 575 mm of stack, 1,060 mm wheelbase, 425 mm chainstays, 70° head angle, and a bottom bracket offset of -78 mm. The corresponding stem for this size is 100 mm. The complete geometry table in the technical report also confirms an exceptionally wide range of seven sizes, from XXS to XXL

SCOTT slightly reduces stiffness on purpose

Another interesting detail is in the carbon layup. SCOTT will offer two levels: HMX and HMF.

Normally, each new generation of a sports bike comes with figures announcing more stiffness. Here, it happens just the opposite.addict-gravel-scott-bike-photo-by-moritz-ablinger-064-f6df56-1788440301057-4

SCOTT acknowledges having deliberately reduced overall stiffness by less than 5%. It is a small modification, but specifically sought to favor the frame's ability to adapt to the terrain, improve traction, and achieve a more forgiving behavior.

The HMX version represents the highest level of performance, while the HMF carbon allows for a price reduction while maintaining much of the structural characteristics of the new frame.

An HMX frame weighing only 794 grams

And increasing capability has not necessarily meant increasing weight. The new Addict Gravel HMX weighs 794 grams, which is 75 grams less than its predecessor. The HMF claims 990 grams, 25 grams less than the previous equivalent.addict-gravel-scott-bike-photo-by-moritz-ablinger-011-ff1cbd-1788440301090-2

These figures are particularly noteworthy considering that we are now talking about a frame prepared for tires up to 57 mm, internal storage, integrated cabling, and numerous mounting points.

SCOTT also provides these weights for complete bikes in tubeless configuration and without the Save the Day kit:

  • Addict Gravel Premium: 7.8 kg
  • Addict Gravel 10: 8.2 kg
  • Addict Gravel 20: 8.6 kg
  • Addict Gravel 30: 8.7 kg
  • Addict Gravel 40: 8.7 kg

Tools and storage integrated into the bike itself

The greater adventure orientation also appears in the storage solutions. In the down tube, the Syncros Save the Day system is integrated, designed to carry a tube, tire levers, and a mini pump without the need to carry them in pockets or a saddlebag. SCOTT also emphasizes that the set is designed to avoid noise while riding.

ADDICT GR27 STD CONTAINER 0001 7ca343

But there are more hidden tools. At the ends of the handlebar, a T25 wrench and a tubeless repair kit can be integrated. SCOTT has also tried to standardize screws so that the same T25 can be used on the stem, handlebar, seatpost, seat clamp, and even bottle cages.

ADDICT GR27 HANDLBAR SYNTOOL0060 7221d0

A specific and removable bag for the top tube has also been developed. Its screws are flush when removed, so those who do not need to carry luggage can maintain a clean appearance. The new SCOTT Addict Gravel 2027 pushes the limits: MTB tyres and a frame weighing under 800 g

A new Syncros cockpit specifically for gravel

The Addict Gravel also debuts a cockpit designed specifically for this discipline. SCOTT has increased the forward sweep to create more space for the wrists when the cyclist loads weight on the handlebar in turns, while the reach of the cockpit itself decreases to facilitate movement between the top area and the levers.

There is also a particularly interesting solution in the flare. Before the lateral opening begins, there is a small vertical section intended for mounting the levers. In this way, the levers maintain a neutral position aligned with the drops, instead of being tilted outward.

ADDICT GRAVEL SCOTT BIKE PHOTO BY MORITZ ABLINGER 004 C99f2a

The lower curve has also been redesigned to increase the palm support area and facilitate access to the brakes.

SCOTT also maintains a high level of modularity. The specific Addict Gravel stem, the RC stem, or the integrated Syncros cockpit can be used, and numerous spacers, caps, and small components are interchangeable with the Addict and Addict RC.

The bike also uses a Syncros D-profile seatpost, compatible with the brand's integrated rear light system, and adopts the integrated seatpost clamp from the Addict RC.

Bottle cages on the fork, but placed in an unusual way

The new fork incorporates points to install bottle cages, although SCOTT has sought a solution different from the usual.

The mounts are located on the inner face of the legs, not on the outside. Using specific supports, the bottles are placed closer to the steering axis.

ADDICT GR27 FORK BOTTL0002 A3d842

According to SCOTT, this arrangement allows for a 35% reduction in the inertia generated by the load, maintaining a faster and more linear steering when the bike is equipped.

In addition to increasing the amount of water transportable, this solution allows moving the bottles from the main triangle to the fork to free up space and mount a larger frame bag.

UDH, internal cabling, and 1x 12 and 13-speed drivetrains

The new frame incorporates a replaceable UDH derailleur hanger, internal cable routing, and integrated storage. Both the HMX and HMF versions use carbon Flat Mount forks with a 27.2 mm eccentric carbon head tube, according to SCOTT specifications.

The range clearly bets on single chainring drivetrains. In the SRAM models, we find the new RED, Force, and Rival XPLR AXS 13-speed, accompanied by 10-46 cassettes and 42-tooth chainrings. The Shimano versions use GRX 12-speed, 40-tooth chainring, and SLX 11-45 cassette.

The brakes use 160 mm discs front and rear in the setups detailed by the brand. 63755 Tech&Facts Report MY27 Addict Gravel D9b9a7.pdfPDF

In short, the new Addict Gravel moves away from the idea of a road bike simply adapted to tracks and approaches the much more versatile concept of a lightweight gravel bike that can roll fast but is prepared to tackle terrains that until recently would have directly required a MTB.
