The best of Specialized in an extremely limited collection: meet Built for Legends LTD

Specialized has just presented Built for Legends LTD, a collection that brings together some of its most advanced S-Works road, XC, gravel, and downhill bikes under an exclusive aesthetic. Tarmac SL9, Epic 9, Crux 5, and Demo 11 receive a handcrafted finish and will be produced in extremely limited quantities. The collection is completed with the S-Works Evade 4 helmet and the S-Works Ares 2 shoes.

Built for Legends LTD: four S-Works bikes in an unrepeatable decoration

The idea behind this limited series is directly related to the results achieved by these bikes during 2026. Specialized has renewed its benchmark competition platforms this season, and all of them have achieved victories at the highest level.

In the Tour de France, the Tarmac SL9 achieved four stage wins, while in the Tour de France Femmes it added six victories in nine stages in addition to the overall. The Epic 9 had accumulated four wins between XCO and XCC in the World Cup up to August 12 and won 3 World Championships; the Demo 11 strung together four consecutive wins in DH, and the Crux 5 topped the men's podium at Unbound Gravel, also securing the top two positions in the women's category.

The common element of the entire collection is the Race Red/Vapor finish, created around the red historically associated with competition by Specialized.

The paint starts from a red tone applied over a silver powder base, so its appearance changes depending on the lighting. It becomes darker in low light conditions and much more metallic when directly exposed to the sun. A black ink with a watercolor-like effect and a dark gradient at the edges is manually applied over it.

Precisely that manual process ensures that no two units are exactly alike. The bikes also incorporate specific details such as red brake calipers and darkened components.

And Specialized has taken the concept of limited edition quite far. The global production will be just 199 Tarmac SL9, 119 Epic 9, 55 Crux 5, and 50 Demo 11, all individually numbered.

S-Works Tarmac SL9 Built for Legends LTD: 199 units

The road bike in the collection is the new Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9, of which we have already published our complete review.

Specialized will manufacture only 199 numbered units worldwide. It retains the FACT 12r frame weighing 687 g and features custom-finished SRAM RED AXS, Roval Rapide Sprint CLX wheels, and integrated Roval Rapide cockpit.

The declared weight of the complete bike is 6.6 kg in size 56 and its price amounts to 14,999 euros.

S-Works Epic 9 Built for Legends LTD: only 119 will be available

The collection also reaches XC with the Specialized S-Works Epic 9, whose new range, models, and prices we have already seen in detail.

This version retains the S-Works FACT 12m carbon frame with 120 mm of travel, RockShox SID Ultimate Flight Attendant fork, and SIDLuxe Ultimate Flight Attendant shock. The build includes SRAM XX SL Eagle Transmission, Roval Control World Cup carbon wheels, and RockShox Reverb AXS dropper post.

Specialized announces 119 numbered units, a weight of 9.69 kg in size M, and a price of 15,499 euros, making it the most expensive bike in this collection.

S-Works Crux 5 Built for Legends LTD: 55 bikes for the whole world

Even harder to obtain will be the S-Works Crux 5 Built for Legends LTD. Specialized will limit its production to only 55 numbered bikes.

It is built around the FACT 12r frame weighing 789 g and features a custom 13-speed SRAM RED XPLR transmission, 50 mm Roval Terra Aero CLX wheels, integrated Roval Terra cockpit, and 45 mm Pathfinder tires.

The complete set declares 7.1 kg in size 56 and shares the same price as the Tarmac: 14,999 euros.

S-Works Demo 11 Built for Legends LTD: the most exclusive of all

If the previous ones are hard to obtain, the S-Works Demo 11 takes the concept even further: Specialized will only manufacture 50 numbered units worldwide.

Its build is completely oriented towards the Downhill World Cup. It features a FACT 11m Carbon Race Chassis, OBB Linkage suspension system, Öhlins DH38 m.2 Air TTX18 fork with 200 mm travel, and Öhlins TTX22m.2 shock.

The transmission is handled by SRAM XX DH Transmission and braking by SRAM Maven Ultimate with 220 and 200 mm discs. Its price is set at 13,499 euros.

The Evade 4 and Ares 2 complete the collection

Specialized has not limited Built for Legends to its bikes. The same finish comes to two of its S-Works products intended for competition.

The S-Works Evade 4 helmet, which we have already analyzed in depth, receives the Race Red Vapor decoration. It retains the 4D Cooling system, BOA adjustment with FS2, Tri-Fix 5, and Mips Air Node Pro. Its declared weight is 280 g, and this edition is priced at 329 euros. Specialized does not specify a concrete number of units, but it does confirm that there will be a single limited production.

The same goes for the S-Works Ares 2 shoes. For this version, a unidirectional carbon sole has been created specifically painted to match the Tarmac from the collection.

They maintain the Body Geometry Natural Last shape and the double BOA Li2 closure, with an announced weight of 263 g per shoe in size 44. They will be available from size 36 to 49 for 479 euros, also in a unique and limited production.
