David Valero and Thomas Litscher, favorites in a long list of top riders

La Nucía will host the first race of the Shimano Super Cup Massi 2023 Championship. This will be the sixth edition of the event, consisting of six UCI races (all of them on Spanish soil).

The race is disputed in the Olympic MTB of 5 kilometers. The route starts and finishes at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano and is designed by Carlos Coloma. The race, in addition, is scoring for the UCI world ranking that gives access to the Olympic places for the next Games, held in Paris in 2024.

David Valero will be the great attraction of the day. The 34-year-old Spaniard of the BH Coloma Team is in the best moment of his career, as he has recently achieved great successes, such as the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the runner-up at the 2022 World Championships and is the current number one in the UCI ranking.

Another favorite will be Thomas Litscher (Lapierre Mavic Unity). The Swiss rider arrives in Alicante in thirteenth place in the ranking. It should be remembered that he finished third in the World Championship 2022 and took the victory in the race of La Nucia last year.

Litscher's teammates Erik Haegstad and Sebastian Fini are also among the favorites to fight for the first place. Some national champions such as Emil Hasund (Norway), Maxime Loret (France) and Ondrej Cink (Czech Republic) can make a strong performance.

Beyond Valero, some other Spaniards like Jofre Cullell, Pablo Rodriguez and Catriel Soto (all from the BH Coloma Team) may also have a chance. And finally, Antoine Philipp, Alexandre Balmer and Samuel Gaze are the other names to watch closely.

Linda Indergand, the favorite in the women's race

Swiss rider Linda Indergand is one of the top contenders to climb to the top of the podium. She currently occupies the thirteenth position in the UCI ranking and, although she went from strength to strength last season, she achieved some great results as the national runner-up.

BH Coloma Team rider Rocío del Alba is also among the favorites. With an impressive track record in Spain, she is the current national champion and was the winner in La Nucia last year.

Other participants who might leave a great performance are Raquel Queirós, Matylda Szczeci?ska, Annie Last, Malene Degn or Linn Gustafzzon.
