Spotted the new electronic suspension from FOX for XCO: it debuts in Les Gets

FOX is about to take an important step in the development of its electronic suspensions for Cross Country. The World Cup in Les Gets will be the chosen stage, once again, to test in competition a new evolution of the Live Valve NEO specific for XC, and this time the big news is that for the first time we have been able to see a set formed by completely wireless electronic fork and shock.img-2715-1787227755009-1

FOX shows in Les Gets an electronic fork that seems to complete the new Live Valve NEO for XCO

FOX's electronic suspensions are not new, nor are they in the XCO World Cup. In fact, Les Gets is once again a key stage in the development of this technology.

Just a year ago we saw how Charlie Aldridge won the Short Track in Les Gets with a FOX Live Valve NEO shock installed on his Cannondale Scalpel. That setup was particularly interesting because the commercial Live Valve NEO had been developed for Trail and All Mountain and only acted on the shock. In the British rider's Scalpel, it was adapted for XCO and accompanied by front and rear sensors responsible for detecting impacts.

Simon Andreassen's bike is the only one that currently has this system in the Orbea Fox Factory

A year later, the project seems to have advanced considerably. FOX will again use competition as a testing ground, but now with a system developed around an electronic fork and shock for XC.

The location of the sensor and battery feels exposed, but it is actually quite protected and could improve the system due to its speed in detecting the terrain.

One of the bikes where this technology has already been seen installed is the Orbea Oiz of Simon Andreassen, from the Orbea Factory Team.

A FOX 34 SL electronic that hides practically everything

The most novel piece of the set is the fork. Under the designation RAD, the identifier for products in development by FOX, it hides what seems to be a FOX 34 SL with electronic adaptation.img-2711-1787227741753-2

In this new version, the sensor and what appears to be the battery are located directly on the fork, next to the axle. A very particular position as it seems more exposed to impacts than the one chosen by RockShox, at the top next to the crown, but it could provide a faster response by being able to detect terrain movements sooner.img-2713-1787227741702-4

This configuration makes it clear that it is a 100% wireless system and the configurable parameters could be managed from an app.img-2716-1787227755022-2

Another interesting detail is the presence of a remote control on the handlebar that could allow the cyclist to manually intervene on the suspension lock or select different configurations of the system, but it could also just be something provisional while the model is being finalized.

The shock also integrates the control unit, the battery, and we don't know if another sensor

The combination of both components is precisely what sets it apart from the prototypes we had seen so far in XCO.

The World Cup has been one of FOX's main development fields for years, and the brand is also an official co-sponsor of the Orbea team. So it seems logical that it is here where we see this new electronic system for the first time; now we just have to check if other FOX riders will also test this system in Les Gets.

We will be attentive.
