Specialized has just officially presented the new S-Works Evade 4, the fourth generation of one of the most influential aero helmets in modern cycling. The new model aims to maintain the aerodynamic performance that made the Evade a reference within the professional peloton, while clearly improving cooling, fit, and comfort for long and high-intensity efforts.

New S-Works Evade 4 helmet: cooler, more comfortable, and as aero as ever

The key fact around which all development revolves is very specific. According to Specialized, the new Evade 4 is 2.4% cooler than the Evade 3 without sacrificing a single watt of aerodynamic efficiency. To achieve this, the brand claims to have invested more than 100 hours in testing within its WinTunnel and in specific thermal trials with instrumented mannequins and professional riders.

An aero helmet that seeks to cool better without losing speed

The great challenge of the Evade 4 was to improve ventilation without altering the aerodynamic behavior of the helmet. Specialized has primarily worked on four elements:

  • New longer and narrower side air intakes
  • Reintroduction of the front MouthPort
  • New 4D Cooling internal channels
  • Complete redesign of the upper and rear surface

The overall silhouette of the helmet takes direct inspiration from the TT5 time trial helmet. The Evade 4 adopts a flatter top and small rear fins designed to reduce turbulence when the rider is in a low head position, especially during sustained high-speed efforts.

Additionally, Specialized claims to have optimized the laminar flow over the helmet's surface through a very precise redesign of the side vents. The rear outlets now function as diffusers that release air more cleanly, reducing drag without blocking internal circulation.

Another of the most important elements is the new front ventilation integrated into an architecture that seeks to increase airflow while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency.

2.4% cooler thanks to a new internal architecture

The major technical innovation of the Evade 4 lies in thermal management. Specialized has been trying for years to bring the performance of an aero helmet closer to that of a traditional ventilated one and claims that this generation is the biggest leap since the launch of the first Evade in 2014.

The new 4D Cooling system introduces deeper internal channels that direct air through the helmet more efficiently. This is complemented by a redesigned MouthPort and larger front openings that increase airflow intake.

Additionally, the interior padding has been completely changed. The Evade 4 incorporates new Mips Air Node Pro pads, developed to improve sweat evacuation and reduce moisture buildup during intense efforts or very hot stages.

According to Specialized, all these changes have been validated through new in-house thermal tests that will be used in future helmet developments by the brand.

Belgian cyclist Lotte Kopecky summarized the project's approach: “Specialized continues to invest in improving our comfort, safety, and aerodynamics, but also in design, ensuring that their products are as attractive as possible.”

New shape and completely revised fit

Beyond aerodynamics and ventilation, Specialized has also redesigned the internal shape of the helmet. The new Evade 4 combines learnings from the development of the Propero 4 and Ambush 3 to create a more enveloping and comfortable fit in the upper head area.

The adjustment system is now handled by the new BOA Fit System with FS2, a micro-adjustable 360° closure that promises to reduce pressure points and improve helmet stability during sprints, descents, or aggressive positions on the bike.

The straps also evolve with the new Tri-Fix 5, which offers a wider adjustment range and a cleaner placement around the ears.

A helmet born for the World Tour… and increasingly used off-road

The Evade has been one of the most used helmets in the World Tour for over a decade, and Specialized has developed this fourth generation alongside riders like Remco Evenepoel, Demi Vollering, and Paul Magnier.

But the Evade is no longer just a road helmet. Specialized highlights that it is currently also one of the most used models by its Factory XC and off-road teams for quick XCC tests and competitive gravel.

Weight, colors, and price of the new S-Works Evade 4

The new S-Works Evade 4 has a declared weight of 280 grams, its official price is 329 euros, and it is already available in 6 finishes (Black, White, White/Red, Root Beer, Silver/White, and Multi Aurora).

Specialized clearly positions it as its ultimate aero helmet for competition, and as we have seen, its use ranges from road to XCO.
