Spanish champion Mireia Benito signs with Movistar
Movistar Team continues to strengthen its women's roster for the upcoming seasons and has just announced the addition of Mireia Benito. The current champion of Spain in road and time trial will join the telecommunications team in 2027 with a contract for the next three seasons, until the end of 2029.
Mireia Benito will race with Movistar Team from 2027
Spanish cycling will have one of its main references within Movistar Team starting next season. Mireia Benito will leave AG Insurance-Soudal to join the Spanish structure, where she will bring experience, versatility, and especially, time trial skills that have led her to dominate the specialty at the national level in recent years.

Born in 1996, the Catalan arrives at one of the best moments of her sports career. Benito achieved a spectacular double at the Spanish Championships held in Sabiñánigo this year, where she was crowned national champion in both the road race and the time trial.

Her victory against the clock also had a special significance. It was her fourth consecutive Spanish time trial championship, confirming an almost indisputable consistency in the discipline during this cycle.
But her results in 2026 have gone far beyond the national level. Benito finished third in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, was fourth in the overall classification of the Vuelta a Burgos, where she also achieved a second place in a stage, and closed the Volta a Catalunya in fifth position.
This performance reinforces the profile of a complete rider that Movistar Team seeks to incorporate into its roster. In addition to being able to take on her own opportunities, her ability in different terrains will allow her to play important roles within the team.
"I join Movistar eager to contribute everything I already know how to do"
For Benito, the signing also means joining a team that she had observed from the outside for years and never imagined she would become a part of her career.
«If a few years ago I had been told that I would end up wearing the colors of Movistar Team, I would probably have thought it was unimaginable. I have always seen it as an ambitious team, with a project that bets on the development of the youngest without forgetting that experience plays a key role in this sport. That combination has always seemed very attractive to me».
The Catalan also explains that she arrives ready to both contribute her experience and continue evolving as a rider.
«I join Movistar eager to contribute everything I already know how to do, to work tirelessly on everything I still don’t know how to do, and, above all, to blend in with the good atmosphere that already exists in the team».
Benito faces this new period with the intention of continuing to seek new challenges and also taking on the less glamorous part of competition.
«I want to keep challenging myself, pursuing new goals and learning to make defeats as important a part of who I am as victories are. Because this sport is very tough, but if so many people are passionate about it, it must also be capable of making us indescribably happy».
Sebastián Unzué hopes she will be "a key piece from day one"
From Movistar Team, they highlight precisely the combination of experience and versatility that Benito can offer the team. Sebastián Unzué, head of the women's structure, assures that she is a cyclist they have known for years.
«We are very excited to announce Mireia's arrival to the team. She is a rider we have known for many years, and we have no doubt that she will be a key piece from day one. Her ability to contribute in all terrains, her experience, and her character make her a safe asset for the team».
With her contract until 2029, Mireia Benito thus opens a new chapter after her seasons at AG Insurance-Soudal and becomes one of the moves by Movistar Team to continue strengthening its women's project for 2027.
