Pogacar wins Liège 2026, and Seixas proves himself against the best

Road 26/04/26 15:18 Migue A.

The Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2026 once again demonstrated why it is the most complete race on the calendar. It also confirmed something that is starting to become routine. Tadej Pogacar is the man who makes the difference when the road gets serious. The Slovenian secured his fourth victory in La Doyenne after shaking off an impressive Paul Seixas at the Roche-aux-Faucons and finishing solo in Liège.

Pogacar claims his fourth Liège dominating Seixas at the decisive moment

The race had movement from the start. Remco Evenepoel shook up the script with a long-range breakaway of more than 150 kilometers alongside a large group, forcing UAE to work early on. The Belgian's attempt did not succeed, but it hardened the race and conditioned all subsequent developments.

With the peloton already selected, the race entered its natural terrain. UAE took control in the decisive area and prepared the key attack. At La Redoute, Pogacar launched his usual acceleration. It was not just another attack. It was the move that broke the race again.

Only Seixas was able to hold on. The young Frenchman, just 19 years old, kept pace with the world champion and crowned alongside him, leaving all the favorites behind. Behind, the chasing group was completely fragmented, with Evenepoel far from his best version at that moment.

Both quickly opened a gap. They understood each other, collaborated, and reached nearly a minute of advantage, making it clear that the victory was between the two of them. The Côte des Forges did not change the script. Everything was pending on the final ascent.

At the Roche-aux-Faucons came the verdict. Pogacar accelerated again, and this time Seixas gave way. The Frenchman had resisted everything before, but the final meters at 11% were too much. The Slovenian quickly opened a gap and did not look back.

Seixas confirms his stature and Evenepoel salvages the podium

From that moment on, the race was set for a verdict. Pogacar managed the advantage on the descent and in the approach to Liège, even extending his margin to 45 seconds at the finish.

Behind, Seixas held the second place with authority. His performance, holding off Pogacar at La Redoute and fighting until the last climb, confirms that he is now a reality in these types of scenarios, not just a promise.

Further back, Evenepoel rebuilt his race. After struggling at the key moment, the Belgian found his rhythm in the final kilometers, linked up with the pursuers, and clearly won the sprint for third place.

In the rest, he has imposed his law with a superiority that admits no discussion. But this time there are nuances. Seixas did not win, but he left an important mark. And Evenepoel, despite not being able to respond at the key moment, once again demonstrated that he always finds a way to be at the front.
