Primož Roglič has seen his preparation for the Vuelta a España disrupted after being hit by a car while training a few days ago. The Slovenian, who was set to return to competition this Saturday at the Clásica de San Sebastián, has confirmed that he will also not be able to compete in the Vuelta a Burgos, two key events in his preparation before the main goal of his season.

It was Roglič himself who revealed the incident through his social media, where he posted a photograph showing a significant bruise on the back of one of his legs. Despite the blow, the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider conveys optimism and keeps his eyes set on the start of the Vuelta a España, scheduled for August 22.

“I was hit by a car a few days ago. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Clásica San Sebastián or the Vuelta a Burgos. It’s not the best scenario, but that’s life. Now everything is focused on La Vuelta. We will keep working and hope that things change,” wrote the four-time winner of the Spanish round.

The images shared by the cyclist show that he has already resumed training on the roller, although he is still not in a condition to return to competition.

He misses the two races planned before the Vuelta

Roglič had been doing a specific training block for the Vuelta a España for several weeks. After his last competition, the Slovenian National Championship at the end of June, where he won the time trial title and finished fourth in the road race, the plan was to regain competitive rhythm in two one-week races.

The Clásica San Sebastián was set to mark his return to racing this Saturday, while the Vuelta a Burgos was to serve as the final test before facing the last grand tour of the year. The accident now forces a complete modification of that schedule.

Still, neither the rider nor his team have hinted that his presence at the start in Monaco is in jeopardy, so, barring complications during recovery, Roglič will remain one of the main contenders for the red jersey.

Final months before changing teams

The accident comes in the final stretch of Roglič's time at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The Slovenian will leave the German team at the end of the 2026 season after three campaigns, although he has not yet officially announced what his new destination will be.

In recent weeks, various speculations about his future have emerged, but none have been confirmed by the rider or his entourage. Meanwhile, all attention is focused on whether he can recover in time to arrive in good condition for the Vuelta a España, the major event around which his entire season revolves.
