Roglic considered retiring from cycling after his crash in the Tour
The bad luck that haunts Primoz Roglic in the Tour de France, a race in which he has been forced to abandon in the last three occasions he has participated, and the last time he finished was to be defeated by Tadej Pogacar when he was already close to victory. Hard blows that made the Slovenian consider ending his career after the last setback.
Primoz Roglic: from the abyss of the Tour to victory in La Vuelta
Despite the enormous talent he possesses and having been very close to achieving it, the Tour de France seems to be a jinxed race for Primoz Roglic, who in this 2024 edition had to abandon again due to a fall, apparently silly but which caused him a complicated injury in the form of a fracture of one of his vertebrae.
The same injury, in a back that Primoz Roglic has very worn out, he suffered in the 2022 edition and, despite the great form he showed while in the race, he ended up having to give up due to the intense pain caused by those fractures.

But also in his favorite race, La Vuelta a España, he suffered another silly fall, when he was trying to gain a few seconds on the eventual winner of the 2022 edition, and which also led him to abandon when he was in a position to have been able to compete for victory against the Belgian cyclist.
A new hard blow suffered in this Tour edition that he had prepared meticulously and that, as he confessed, even led him to question whether it was worth continuing in cycling "When it happened to me again, and it did, I thought: why do I need this? I no longer need to be part of the cycling world and suffer all this," doubts that increased when the vertebra fracture was confirmed.
It is worth noting that Primoz Roglic was also involved in the terrible crash of the Itzulia, although he was one of the least affected cyclists with little more than a fractured collarbone.
The Slovenian commented that he considered not taking risks and recovering properly but "they told me that the only obstacle would be the pain, which would not disappear for some time," so I started preparing for La Vuelta. A race where these pains have been present, affecting his performance on specific days, which explains the several days when the Slovenian was seen struggling.
"It is always tough to reach the end of a three-week race. I didn't feel well, but my competitors weren't fresh either. We did the work we had to do and the race turned out as we wanted."
A morale boost for Primoz Roglic that has motivated him to compete in the world championships sharing leadership in the Slovenian team with his compatriot Tadej Pogacar, the main favorite for victory in Zurich. However, all eyes being on Pogacar could give an excellent opportunity for victory to Primoz Roglic, who, surely, with the rainbow jersey on his shoulders, would obtain ample reward for all the hardships that the Tour de France has left him in recent years.
