Jerome Gilloux and Nicole Goeldi are the new e-MTB World Champions

The third edition of the XCO World Championship on electric mountain bikes took place at the 2021 MTB World Championships in Val di Sole. A race that is gaining in popularity year after year and which has just been won by the Frenchman Jerome Gilloux and the Swiss Nicole Goeldi.

Nicole Goeldi takes the gold medal 

In the women's race, France's Laura Charles was the first to take the lead on her Orbea Wild WS, but was closely followed by Switzerland's Nicole Goeldi on a Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo and Germany's Sofia Wiedenroth, also riding Specialized. French defending champion Melanie Pugin was fourth.

But already on the second lap, Goeldi and Charles launched a hard attack that left them alone in the lead. At the risk of their e-MTB's battery not holding in Turbo mode until the end, the Swiss and the Frenchwoman did not slow down the pace. And although Laura Charles got close enough to Goeldi on the last lap, it wasn't enough.

Nicole Goeldi took the gold medal and the rainbow jersey, Laura Charles won the silver medal and Germany's Sofia Wiedenroth closed the podium with the bronze medal.

Jerome Gilloux wins the e-MTB World Championship 2021

In the men's race, France was once again the favourite team, although the American Christopher Blevins also had a good chance of winning after his victory in the XCC World Cup the day before.

On the first lap, Frenchmen Jerome Gilloux, on a Moustache, and Hugo Pigeon on a Scott, took the lead of the race. But Switzerland's Joris Rif, riding Bergstrom, and Americans Charlie Mullins and Christopher Blevins, both on Specialized, were close behind.

It was on the penultimate lap that Gilloux made his final attempt to win after two silver medals in 2019 and 2020. And it worked. That attack saw him overtake teammate Hugo Pigeon to become e-MTB World Champion. Pigeon took the silver medal and American Christhoper Blevins took the bronze medal. Third medal for Blevins in this World Cup after the silver in Team Relay and the gold in XCC.
