The German automotive company continues to put resources into the world of bicycles after acquiring the entire shareholding of the electric bike brand Greyp Biclycles, after taking a majority stake in this brand two years ago. Movements that point to the diversification of investments of a company that is becoming a true giant.

The Porsche commitment to bicycles is increasing

Two years ago, the well-known car manufacturer Porsche surprised us with its entry into the world of bicycles when it took a strong stake in Greyp Bicycles, a Croatian brand specializing in electric bicycles, both mountain and urban. This commitment to new modes of mobility continued with the acquisition last year of Fazua, the manufacturer of one of the most compact and efficient electric motor systems for bikes currently available on the market. This investment gave birth to a spectacular mountain bike with the logos of the Stuttgart-based company.

Now, Porsche is going a step further and has completed the acquisition of the remaining capital of Greyp, integrating its activity with that of Fazua in a new company called Porsche eBike Performance. The idea is to create synergies between the two companies in which Greyp would bring its passion and experience in manufacturing electric bikes and Fazua its ability to develop compact, powerful and efficient motors to assist them. In any case, it is expected that both brands will continue to have their own identity despite the new leadership.

All this is framed in the paradigm of indefinition that haunts the motor industry and that has led brands to think about a not too distant future in which the car will lose relevance in the field of mobility. Besides, the introduction of car brands in the world of bicycles also has a certain aura of image washing in a world increasingly aware of the problem that current combustion vehicles represent for the aggravation of climate change.

In fact, a few months ago, Audi, together with Porsche, another of the jewels in the crown of the Volkswagen group, launched a concept SUV with touches of Pickup, 100% electric, in which the image of the bike played a key role.

The Volkswagen Group's commitment to the world of bicycles has continued to grow in recent years, with Greyp being its latest acquisition, after acquiring a few years ago brands such as Cyclaer, also specialized in electric bikes, or Ducati, which despite being a classic motorcycle company has also diversified into the world of assisted bicycles in recent years.
